You’re Banned.
As much as we hate to do this, it seems that one of our regular readers just can’t adapt to the rest of the herd and always has something nasty to say. Even if his comment doesn’t sound too bad on its own, there’s usually an underlying tone which just indicates that he can’t play nice.
Now we’ve put up with it ourselves, basically by trying to ignore him and let him be, but now it seems the rest of the good folk that come to visit John Cow dot com are growing tired of him.
The last push we needed was an article written by Elise on Darren’s blog;”How Does Your Comment Policy Affect Your Readership?“. Well this is how..

As far back as we can remember, Israel has been one of the rudest commentators we’ve had on here. Not only does he openly admit that he just comments for the sake of getting a back link from our top commentator list, he also pisses off the other readers with bashing and uneducated replies to their comments. We’ve gathered just a handful of screen shots of our comments section, purposely leaving out all the nasty remarks pointed directly towards us.

We’re thick skinned and don’t mind the bashing, the ignore tactics seemed to work quite well as Israel was toning down the amount of comments he left in the past month or so. Now that he seems to be spamming with silly one-line comments at the end of the month, just to get into the top commentators list, and other people started to take offense to his behavior, we’ve decided to cut him loose. Effective immediately Israel is banned from our blog.
Why dedicate this post to Israel? Because if we did it quietly, we’d more than likely be accused of all sorts of things by Israel on other blogs. He likes to slag bloggers on other people’s blog too. We’ve seen plenty of anti-cow comments left and right in the blogosphere written by Israel. Now that this is out in the open, we just feel better about it. We don’t like to ban anyone but enough is enough.
And to stay polite, we’d like to reply to Israel’s last words on here:
No Israel, we’re not ‘struggling mightily‘ as you put it, we actually think that Paul was quite right when he said that we just needed to take a look at the Alexa rankings to see who exactly seems to be struggling.

We know you’re probably not interested in all this since you don’t give a damn about making money online anyway with your John Chow bashing posts as an example of your purity of heart. Which leaves us with one more question that we’ll never get the answer to since you won’t be able to reply here, but perhaps someone else can tell us what’s wrong with this last screen shot we got of Israel’s blog, FatmanUnleashed dot Com?

Seeya around Israel, it’s been quite an experience.
If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

Tough decision but fair. You were probably more patient than I would have been.
That last screen shot was hillarious
OOOppps!
It’s been so long since I made my voices heard here. Luckily for me that I didn’t get any bashing from this guy.
Is this what we call over-interacting with fellow commentators?
Oops, am I rude?
I lol’d.
I have seen Israel on JohnChow.com and have even seen some of the posts in his blog, to be honest, maybe I had missed that kind of posts, but never saw him rude (well until I did not saw the screenshots).
Even tho us bloggers need commentators, it is true that we don’t need bashers too that piss off the rest of the folks, you have made the best decision from your point of view, so everything sounds good.
Always seemed a bit of a twit to me; nice work on the banning. Never knew you could do that!
Cool Alexa graph too, looks like *someone* (and I don’t mean the Cow) got PWNED
Personally I would have kept him on my blog as I would love to keep ignoring such a cunt!
But I guess he deserved it 100%
Didn’t noticed him/her at all. You might call it “Israel blindness”.
But how do you ban a commenter? Can you enlighten me on this?
Though it will be a long long time before I can use this technique.
bmunch, you can find more about the ban techniques here.
That’s a pretty crazy banning plugin. You have all kinds of people here =).
I have to say this blog is sometimes very good sometimes very bad(like any blog) but at the end of the day it is just a blog no one force you to read it
This is maybe the worst tactic to be a top commentator … spend less reading commenting and write more to get traffic
I do have the ban plugin but I hope i will never go this far
I would have banned him just for spelling “because” as “cuz”-but that’s just me.
As long as you are not banning people for rude comments its cool. I like to leave a rude comment every once in a while just to stir shit up.
You did well, the comment box is for good replies not to fight
My friend has a person like this on his blog and he has been trying to be tolerant. Everything has to come to an end. As you say there are such things as constructive comments.
The WP plugin you mention is a beauty
This is too funny ahahhhahah, never banned anyone from a blog before just the random spam, maybe you can use the maintenance plugin for wp and make it only show for the banned IP’s
Ha HA HAAAAA, Bye bye. You can come by my blog and get banned anytime you like
I don’t know the full story really, so can’t take sides, but just by browsing every few days, I can see that….
I think you are too money obsessed. I think the huge mass of ads on this page proves my point - The ads are very laggy and can crash browsers. Seems like you care more by profiting than your members usability of your site. I understand that everyone needs to pay the mortgage, but now its just like, more more more!
What’s next? Those full page popups?
You gonna ban me too?
I happen to like the ads! Atleast one of them
Tomer, the amount of ads is the same as it was ever since we introduced the new theme, except for the entrecard button. We regularly give away free ad spots to our readers which would be a silly to do if we were too money obsessed.
Seems like a twit. Now could you remove him from your top commenters list? He doesn’t deserve any google juice.
Did you just ban him from commenting, or from viewing your entire blog?
Chris, IP ban for the entire blog, even though there are work-arounds for that. If he does manage to get here, the comments will be blocked for him too. And Rhys, we’re pretty sure he’ll disappear from the list soon enough with only 2 comments.
@Tomer - Some blogs you visit like cows, you will notice same amount of ads or even more, but none of them are interesting. Few minutes ago I actually visited DealDotCom.com and bought the Business Optimization Profit Pack very rarely do I find an ad thats interests me enough to buy something from that site.
@Tomer
Quote “I think you are too money obsessed. I think the huge mass of ads on this page proves my point”
I don’t want to state the obvious but this blog is about making Mooney Online, so how can Mr Moo be money obsessed ?
Yeah he was a bit abrasive, but I looked forward to the responses. *L*
The crap comments to get on the sidebar list is a bit much though.
I am one who asked Israel to stop with the weak, 4-word comments because it was obvious and annoying for him to basically spam as a way to get into the sidebar.
Either way, Cow, the reason he has not commented much recently is that he had emergency surgery to remove his appendix…when he got out of the hospital, he came here and commented on every post he’d missed to regain his spot in the sidebar. sad sad
The cow is finally showing his tough side
WAY TO GO!! Spammers and rude people deserve to get banned.
-Mike
ehehe..good for him la..ehehe
anyway,,,i check your pr… the tools said you have page rank 3 !! good for you
Thanks for the heads up on the Ban plugin. I love this quote:
“It even allows you to writeup a full landingpage in HTML especially designed for your favorite trolls!”
Oh cow, you are providing “premium content” to you trolls, how about us, the regular people.
Any way we can see the screenshot of the customized landing page for the newly banned troll, Israel?
John, very sorry. I thought this was the johnCHOW.com site and I posted the comment while thinking it was the other site [which has all the ads] - so I didn’t really notice the lack of ads cause I just remembered from last time…
my bad
@Cow - Won’t other bloggers be blocked if they use the same IP address? I am talking from a point where I was using internet cards which gives me a shared IP with many others.
I agree with you on this one 100% Cow. Way to not take crap from anyone.
That’s a seriously confusing apology Tomer. ! You’ve lost me.
Dealing with an “unpleasant” comments is really quite hard. On one side you would love to be tolerant and not take someones freedom to speak away and just let them scream they BS out loud and ignore them. But at times that is really superhard and swift action needs to be taken. I think you have decided well.
this one was too funny. So what are you going to do about it?
I’ve noticed Israel’s posts on a few of the top name blogs, didnt realise he was stirring the pot so much.
Can understand your frustration Cow, but the post brings more attention to Israel and his site - something I think he was trying to achieve in the first place!! (Unless this was an evil plan between you two to drum up some press both ways?)
me likes. the guy’s an ass. he offered to pay me one dollar to review his blog. looks like a rejected extra from “prison break”
looks like he’s not banned. i see his fat mug on ur commentators list
@ bloggernoob - It’s okay day or two maybe few hours when the rest of the world wakes up he will be off that list.
30Dayman, it’s the last bit of attention he is getting so we hope he’s happy with it
Wow, interesting. If you want to guest host Isreal, I can do it for you.
You can’t please all the people all the time. You’ll always have those who are just bitter that you’ve come up with a better idea before them.
@ Bloggernoob– Extra on Prison Break! LOL, ROFL!
Too funny. He’s the guy who would be buying drugs from T-Bag! LOL
LOL .. its funny how he talks smack on Johnchow but yet he has a TTZ Logo
Odd….perhaps he was link baiting? Sometimes, bad publicity is better than no publicity.
Hmmm…on second thought…obviously a mutually agreed ploy for publicity…nice colaboration Mr. Cow…pretty clever though!
The fact you provided him a link gave it away at the end!
A man’s gota do what a man’s gota do. it’s your site and you are of course well within your rights. Smell ya later fatman !
You ban because you can, but if you think it’s a solution then think again.
that cow really gave me some inspiration to go on for blogging !!
Well, I absolutely love the site now. I’m definitely subscribing and book marking this one. Keep up the good work guys.
Good riddens. I have people like that on my forum. At first you don’t want to turn anyone away but people like that keep good people from participating with a fear of backlash. If it was just for backlinks I”m sure he’s trolling some other blog right now!
[...] arise from this would be the start of low-quality comments and/or spam. John Cow recently had to ban someone because of this. A simple way to fix this would be to just display comments after admin approval. [...]
Nasty! (<- this is not commentSpam. I’m just sayin … “NASTY!!!”)
