Yay New Toys!

Ok, so we can’t call and SMS anyone with it, but it plays music and movies, connects to the Internet via wifi and has a special youtube button. Yes, we’ve bought ourselves a shiny new 16GB Apple iPod touch. After having given two away to winners of the Million Euro Wiki project, it was time to get one to keep. And what a moo-gnificent piece of Apple hardware it is!

We’ve spend an entire day, trying to hack or jailbreak it to install some of the cool iPhone apps on it like maps, mail and weather, but every time we fixed one thing, another thing broke. So we’re back to the original settings and we’ll just have to wait until Steve decides he wants to start selling the iPhone here in Ireland. Well done anyway Steve, you’ve made us buy the touch because the iPhone isn’t available yet. You sure know how to make money!

Anyway, the touch control is extremely cool and works like a charm. The unit is nice and thin and the screen is great to watch movies on. We have a 30GB 5th gen iPod video which we thought was very nice, but the touch blows it out of the water. The only thing we don’t like is the limited capacity of 16GB. We didn’t have enough space to fit all our music on it so we were forced to finally clean out the iTunes library. It’s all much tidier now and most songs we never really listen to anyway have been deleted. Something we should have done a long time ago. Anyway, if you’re looking for an awesome Christmas present this year, we can highly recommend this little gem. Perhaps try your 1 in 25 chance, winning one over at the Million Euro Wiki?

After we went all out, spending 400 Euro on the iPod, another 15 Euro bought us a white-board and markers, which hopefully will help us to improve our blogging. A problem which we’re sure a lot of you bloggers have, is that we keep coming up with ideas for posts but then end up forgetting them because we don’t have anything to jot them down. The board will serve as a big post-it and now we might actually get some more work done.

Oh, and we’ve replaced these: vans1.jpg with these: vans2.jpg because the old ones were getting a bit smelly…

Shiny.

Can’t say I agree with your choice in footwear though. Laces > no laces.

Nice idea about the white board, not so sure about the mental image you snuck in there with the uh….footwear.

Agreed, laces are overrated, but I still stick with them for no reason :)

Anyways, you could’ve asked me to get you a iPhone here in US and I could’ve shipped it to you :)

I have also just got myself a shiny new iPod touch (getting ready to give one away on MEW  ) and successfully jail-broken it and added iPhone Apps. Check out my blog for working instructions  also don’t forget to add “http://repo.us.to” to the installer sources to make all the iPhone Apps easy to install.

I agree with Cow on the no laces. Living in Japan where unless you’re outside it’s a predominantly shoes off country it’s a ball ached to be doing up and undoing shoes all day.

Love the Vans, could careless about the apple thing.

I hope you got real skater vans from a distributor (like a skate shop) and not the thin, cheap ones sold at retail stores. There really is a difference, and the Vans company knows this. They sell the cheap ones for posing kids for fashion, and the true ones to real skaters who need the pillow.

ramble ramble…

I love my iPod Touch. The 16GB limitation doesn’t matter to me either since my music fits on it fine. The problem is all the video podcasts and other videos I watch don’t always fit. I have about 3GB free on mine for video. For you readers, I was one of the lucky winners from the Million Euro Wiki.

i used to own five pairs of vans back when i was a skaterboy. as far as the ipod. i really think its a waste of money. only 16 gigs. can’t even fit 20 movies. id rather buy the new asus 7 inch laptop with my $400 and a cheap sansa

Bloggernoob: If you encode with H.264, a 700mb Avi turns into about 200mb and the quality is great. So that’s about 80 movies…

i think i’ll check out the encoder. only thing tho. how long does it take to encode. i hate the lenghty wait. almost not worth getting any type of pmp.

Bloggernoob, We use iSquint for the Mac. Does the job pretty fast, but we queue up the movies to convert overnight anyway.
