Will Curiosity Pay Off?

You guys just love commenting don’t you? With 113 posts and 3,532 comments, the average is 32 comments per post which is quite a lot for a new blog. It seems such a waste not to do anything with this, so we figured we’d cram a little 468X15 adsense bar in there. Anyone that’s curious and goes through the comments will find the ads just after the last comment. We feel this is the perfect position since it’s also just above the reply box. We’re using your curiosity to make us mooney!

Think about it; A lot of you kids come here via your RSS reader. Since we use feedburner, there’s an option to display the amount of comments a post received. If you’ve read the article, chances are you’re curious as to what your fellow readers had to complain about. (Currently it seems the RSS feed shows a maximum of 10 comments which isn’t correct. We need to take this up with the feedburner crew).

It’s not just you who enters the blog on a post instead of the main URL. Loads of other visitors, who were too lazy to sign up for our full RSS feed which would make their lives easier, enter the blog on a certain post. This might be because Google sent them here or perhaps via Stumble upon. It doesn’t really matter where they came from, what matters is that we have made sure that an obviously busy spot on the blog is being utilized to make us more moo-lah!

Is Adsense the way to go? We probably won’t be able to tell you for another few weeks. Perhaps it would be better to display an affiliate/referal link of some sort. Since the amount of ad impressions is going up by a significant amount, the eCPM is probably going to drop. We’re not sure if this would affect us in any way since we’re no expert in the whole online advertisement scene. If you are, please feel free to leave us a comment. Even if your name isn’t MsDanielle or Darin, we’ll still take your input into consideration!

I think he does, lol

problem mr cow with those ads is: A) They are not relevent and B) They require 2 clicks before you earn.

Why not continue searching

This blog is a perfect example of what Google’s section targeting is for. You guys could easily lose the cow ads and get something a little more productive going.

We’re actually testing a plugin that should do just that. http://www.maxpower.ca/wordpress-plugin-target-adsense/2006/11/15/

I never get how to use those damn google adsense plug-ins. I had install like 4 of them before and gave up because doing it manually was so much easier LOL

I had a few problems but then realised you had to manually stick the plugin tokens into your template. Must be a right pain, chopping and changing your ad placements?

Did you ever manage to fix your page?

@Mr. Cow - So what do you feel after the first day? Is it producing any clicks for you?

@Steven - It looks like you didn’t notice my reply to your comment. I hope the site should load fast by now, because I have removed many plugins and compressed and packed many of the javascript and css files. Thus I brought down the post page size to 200KB of which 120KB is cached. Which means each page load after the first should take only 80KB. (Previously it was 300KB / 150KB).

I saw one of your comments but at that point in time, the site wasn’t fixed. I wasn’t sure if you left another comment. It’s hard for me to keep up with all the replies on here LOL. I try my best though

hey i think it’s a good idea. funny how the ad block i’m looking at says “milk cow / dairy cow diet / wordpress blog / moo cows”

wordpress blog?? lol

i also love the little dancing cow! so cute! :D

are you testing the ad block in different locations? i read about how santoshp put his in his sidebar which i just started testing again. i’m still experimenting since i don’t know as much from the publisher side.

Why is “Wordpress blog” funny?

2007-08-24 03:57:51

Well now, I think somebody needs to have a word. I clicked on a link for “cow facts” and in the end I finished up on a website about orangutan adoption.

The ads are great. Not only are they placed perfectly and will most likely result in a decent amount of clicks, but they’re interesting!

Dairy Cow Diet. Wordpress Blog. Bovine Milk. Cattle Dairy. *chuckles* I love this blog. :D

Very good placement on the links. I have done this on a website or two. Right where people like to click…. A few might be happy-clicking-whores and “accidentally” click an ad.
