This post is part of the guest blogger experiment.

Start up blogs often face the challenge of establishing a reputation in the blogging world. Getting a slot in the viewers mind and retaining it becomes very difficult with their limited identity and budget. Blogs that are already established in the blogosphere could be a good platform to give a push to the starters and turning yourself in the role of guest blogger could be a good strategy to create the required buzz about your blog. To elaborate on the benefits of being guest bloggers:

Launch Pad

Established blogs can act as a launch pad for the starters since whatever you write for these blogs would be visible to a big number of viewers who already visit these blogs. This can be a better option as compared to press releases or announcements since no details would be available about what number of people was your press release or announcement able to reach.

Showcase Your Writing Skills

Writing as guest blogger would showcase your detailed work to the visitors as compared to investing in contextual ads programs or promotional campaigns where you can show only a limited work of yours. This would serve as a better opportunity for you to get into the readers mind.

Feedback

People post comments on their favorite blogs. Being a guest blogger would ensure that you get appropriate feedback from the audience about your work. This feedback would form a basis for you to know about the readers tastes and preferences and what they would expect to see in your work. However, in case of advertising and other promotion you get few chances to get a feedback about your work and in turn have less chances to improve yourself.

Credibility

To be a successful blogger you would need to have built a credibility for yourself as an author in order to motivate people to come and see your blog. When somebody agrees to display your article on their blog, they are sort of endorsing your work to their viewers. Guest blogging elevates your credibility in the blogosphere since the established blog on which you are writing would never want to risk their own position and display a bad work.

traffic

Displaying good writing skills as a guest blogger would help to generate a curiosity and an interest in the readers to check your blog in hope to find some more interesting things and hence may visit your blog to get a glimpse of your work. And if they like your work they could even revisit your blog. Thus guest blogging could turn into a good medium to attract traffic to your blog and get some regular visitors for your blog.

Things To Consider Before Guest Blogging

  • Choose a well established blog in your own blogging category.
  • Ensure that whatever you choose to write as a guest blogger is very meaningful and would be able to spark an interest in the viewers to read it further. This would help the blogmaster, of the site that you want to blog upon, to happily agree to include your post. This would also help the visitors to perceive positively about your writing skills.
  • Prepare your own blog to be a nice experience for the visitors who would come to your blog, to check your work, as a result of your guest article. This would help you to retain the traffic on your blog for a longer time and convert a fair percentage of the traffic into regular visitors of your blog.

“Guest blogging elevates your credibility in the blogosphere since the established blog on which you are writing would never want to risk their own position and display a bad work.”

I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s true. A lot of top bloggers post 3-4 times per day and are desperate for content. They can publish bad work and get away with it because it isn’t under the host blogger’s name and it will quickly be moved off the front page.

It should perhaps also be noted that a lot of readers on top blogs tend to ignore the guest posts as they are primarily interested in the host blogger’s thoughts. For example, many readers don’t visit JohnChow for the content specifically (the same stuff can be found elsewhere) but because they’re reading stuff directly from the mind of a dot com mogul.

Otherwise, that was a quite a good post regarding the positives of guest blogging! Of course, it was a bad post your reasoning would fall completely flat! :)

Well done!

I agree. I pay little to no attention to guest posts on top blogs.

Not sure i personally agree with the comments. When I visit sites, if it is a reliable site and the ‘guest poster’ has been approved by the blog owner as someone with a track record and making a quality post, why would you choose not to read it

I don’t know. There’s some psychology there, no doubt. I never noticed it before, but when I think about it, I don’t pay much attention to guest blog posts in general. I suppose it’s because of the hype surrounding guest posting (ie everybody is doing it) that devalue the posts in my eyes because everybody is just doing it to help themselves. Or something.

Thanks Cash quests, for your review of this post. However what I have said is assuming that the established blogmasters don’t assume that their readers are not going to read the guest posts (and if they assume I don’t know how right they are and what their objective actually is..)

And on another note I am happy to know that you have failed me only on one point in this post.. LOL.. I was expecting some more..

Thanks Mr.Cow for your wonderful ratings to this article..
