Whats The MMO Niche Coming To?

With a few noticeable sales in the MMO (Make Money Online) niche lately, one in particular got highlighted by some of the bloggers in the community, and lets just say the poor bastard didn’t get a warm welcome. Instead, there was a horde of angry villagers with torches and pitchforks assigned as the welcoming party, ready to publicly crucify a new blogger.

Marc Galeazzi is the new owner of OneMansGoal, which he bought for $10,500 from Bryan Clark. First things first, we’re looking at this discussion from the sidelines. We’ve never read OneMansGoal and we’ve only heard the name ‘Bryan Clark’ once or twice, perhaps he was/is one of our readers and we saw him in the comments, but whatever. What got our attention in the first place was the way that Vic from BloggerUnleashed cracked down on the new owner of OMG, without knowing much more about him than just the first video Marc had posted.

Within 100 words or so, Vic managed to directly and indirectly address to Marc as a dumbfuck once and a sucker seven times. Welcome to the neighborhood Marc, wherever it went. What annoys us most about the whole way this seems to have played out is that Vic has some sort of vendetta against Bryan Clark, and took this opportunity to rub it in one last time, not caring about crushing the new blogger that just got into the game. Everyone has an opinion as we’re all entitled to one, but to publicly start the name calling game, targeting someone from whom you’ve only read one post / seen one video, shows of poor judgement and lack of social skills if you want our opinion.

Its disturbing to see how all this negative ranting turns into a big hype, attracting tons of eyeballs that stick around. Remember when we posted about how Nice Bloggers Finish Last? Have a look at the following graph, which will show you how much of an impact foul mouthing others can have.
rss boost
BloggerUnleashed seems to have had a 30% boost in subscribers since he took a shot at a newbie blogger, makes us wonder what his audience consists of. We subscribed a few weeks ago, when he had a rant about Caroline Middlebrook. Why? Because he was stirring shit, and even though he didn’t do it in a civilized manner (more name calling), we found Vic was very passionate in his reasoning why he thought Caroline was being naughty, and we were looking for the same passion in his other posts.

Going through the comments, it really does seem that there’s a mindless horde of followers, who are just there for the slagging and the ranting. This is obviously something Vic is aware of, and he keeps playing the cards right. He’s getting the traffic and the readers, bumping the stats, the exposure and getting his name out there. Kind of ironic if you look at the motto in Vic’s blog header:”Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life”. Our opinion? Vic’s personality clashes with the projects he’s working on. How can you be such a rude, foulmouthed, self-proclaimed ‘asshole’ and run a social media website like bloggingzoom?

Marc, if you’re reading this - don’t worry, it all comes with the territory. We hope you achieve your goals with OneMansGoal.com and have some fun along the way.

Amen to that, Bob. I couldn’t agree more.

I watched Vic’s video slagging Caroline, and yes, I agreed with some of his points. In fact, I’d even considered Caroline’s motives myself far before Vic had his say (I came to the conclusion that her motives were not an issue for me to worry about) But the way in which Vic has come out and said his things stinks. He lacks social skills. He lacks morals. He lacks respect. He lacks just about everything a human should have.

I’m sorry Vic. I agree with some of the things you say, but the way you say them is totally out of line and eventually it’s going to bite you in the ass.

The fact is, if Vic was sat next to Caroline or Marc at a table in a restaurant, there’s absolutely no way he would be hurling verbal abuse at them. Vic is making out to be some big shot who says it how it is, when really he’s just a challenged, dysfunctional person doing the age old trick of hiding behind a computer screen.

Vic, if you’re reading, I’ll say it again… I agree with some of the things you say (by all means question the motives and morals of somebody), but the way in which you say it is way out of line. If you wouldn’t say it to them face to face at the top of your voice in a packed restaurant, then don’t say it from behind a computer.

Again I understand that you are trying to get back readership and had to attack me so its ok good marketing tactic.

Vic, this isn’t an attack, this is our opinion of the way you’ve cracked down on a newbie. Don’t try to make this about us as if we’re using it as a marketing tactic. If we would pick someone for a fight, in order to get readership, it sure as hell would be a much bigger blogger than yourself.

Cow, you’re absolutely right. Vic attacks sites and owners on incredibly limited knowledge about them and yet spouts his opinions as fact. One of the comments on that thread you mention brought up the sale of my old blog, BloggingExperiment.com as well as a few others. Vic then assured the commenter that these blogs don’t make the amount of money that we claim to.

I replied that actually my income reports were 100% accurate. Vic then proceeded to say that of course the income report was accurate but it was so small that it was insignificant. Essentially Vic was contradicting his previous statement but of course, he’s never wrong.

Vic then bragged about how much money he made last month and asked me how much I had made. I then informed Vic that I had in fact made more than the amount he was bragging about (admittedly due to the sale of my blog). So once again, Vic was on the wrong side of the argument. Did he admit his error? Of course not. He simply moved on to the next ill informed assumption. And yet, here he is posting a comment stating that he’ll admit wherever he’s wrong!

To be honest, Vic’s about page, which talks about his mental collapse and subsequent bed wetting (no seriously go read it, I’m not making that up) tells me all I need to know about him. However, the fact that Courtney Tuttle is willing to partner with such a person reflects incredibly poorly on Court’s character as well.

Anyway, I’ve rambled a bit here but it was a “spot on” post and it’s nice to see that reasonable people aren’t attracted to the trash Vic publishes.

I think the REAL irony of a post like this is that it will probably just get Vic more subscribers… which sucks… because I like having the advantage of Vic’s knowledge the few hundred readers he had 2 months ago and myself lol

I’m siding with Bob here. I read through Vic’s post and to be honest, am disgusted by what he said. Read down the page and Vic keeps repeating stuff like “This kid is so f**ked he has no idea”. Would I have bought the blog for 10.5k, no, especially if I was new to making money online, but it doesn’t mean we have to cut the guy up who did. Maybe Vic will boost his subscribers from this, but I won’t be reading his blog.

Vic’s style is not politically correct but he does have some real information when you take the time to read and view it He is a real anti-scammers and not afraid to post about it. When you know about his background, you understand why he hate scammers in general.

Sure, I would like it better if he would swear less so that young bloggers could read him too but …One thing is good that he will answers to questions asked in the comments. Since he switch to video, the information is even better.

I too wrote about oenmansgoal too:
OneMansGoal.com Sold For 10K: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly using my own style.

In business, you will encounter many types of persons. If Court’s stayed with him, it’s because Vic can show results despite his public “persona”.

In the show “Growing Pains”, the father told his son: “You can like the music and not the singer”. In this case, the information is the music and Vic is the singer.

And no, I’m not a mindless reader because I read many blogs in this niche. I’m old enough to make my own mind and I look at the results for me.

Good post Bob, you pretty much said it all.

Most of it seems to be par for the course (one person calling another a scammer etc), but the mark was certainly overstepped when the emphasis was put on the guy who bought the site (Marc). If people feel they have to write in a style that mocks and derides like that to keep readership up, then maybe their business acumen isn’t quite what they’d like to think it is…?

On the flip side, I must say I fully agree with Vic’s statement on his “mentor program” page:

“I am so tired of people getting taken by the so called experts.” - so he can’t be all bad. ;)

I’m actually more surprised that there wasn’t a bigger backlash against Vic + BloggerUnleashed for that article.

We’ve had legal action brought against our forums for much less than what he said about that particular transaction.

I think its a typical example of mob mentality at that site. Most of the comments are made up of unintelligent banter with cuss words thrown in for some kind of of lame attempt at dramatic effect.

Kudos to your moo-man for posting on the topic, I totally agree. :)

Many of us have a different style but whatever works. I wouldnt have been so hard but honestly yea the guy was a little more than naive but you have to admit the press he is getting either way. I say good luck. Although personally I wouldnt of parted with 10k and not have ever used wordpress before. That would have been the first sign to keep it in the bank for a little while. As the alleged “scammer” in this entire fray, I’d just like to point out that I laid down a challenge to Vic in his comment field saying that I have a way to prove every dime that One Man’s Goal has made, and every bit of traffic that it produced. All I asked in return was that Vic made a formal video apology to myself, One Man’s Goal readers, and Marc.

I thought this all made sense because the reason I’m being called a scammer by Vic and his mindless drones is due to the fact that the dumbass doesn’t believe that my stats were 100% correct.

Not surprisingly, Vic hasn’t taken me up on my offer to prove the validity of my claims, and therefore the “scammer” tag associated with them. For someone that says he’s only concerned with the truth, he doesn’t seem to want to make an effort to uncover it, even when it slaps him in the face.

And am I the only one that finds it funny that Vic is so anti-spammer, yet he is a self-professed black hat seo expert?

He is trying to sell his blog for probably a record amount in this niche. Do you really think he is going to talk shit about a scammer in the same niche? This would simply make him look bad. This is blatant attempt at getting traffic to get the best value out of this blog. I am not saying you are wrong because this is a smart business decision on your part. Interesting stuff.

I’m personally someone that likes Vic’s blog - yes, he is a bit vulgar, and yes, he has gone off on one without knowing the facts, but all of us have done that.

Is Marc Galeazzi a “dumbfuck” - personally, I feel he is a bit naive, and a bit clueless too - the last thing you want to do after spending $10,000 on a platform that you’ve never used which used to be run by someone who knew what he was talking about is start mentioning stuff like posting in forums three times a day to drive traffic and videos about signing up to Twitter (seriously, WTF). I feel that he has made a hugely miscalculated decision - someone a little less careful with words may call him a “dumbfuck”. :smile:

I do not know Bryan Clark at all; I’ve visited his blog a few times in the past as well he was one of the established names when I started out. I do think those revenue stats are a little high, however should they all be from OMG then hats off to him for monetizing it so well.

In the world of MMO, I do hold Vic’s opinion strongly - his advice has worked for countless people and one of the blogs he holds highly helped me make my first affiliate sale; him calling out Caroline Middlebrook for being a scammer (selling the dream to newbies is a scam, no matter how you want to dress it up) is something that few others in the industry would have done. I will continue to read both Cow & BU, as both provide humour coupled with good advice. ;)

Controversy is always good for traffic, isn’t it? :razz:

Comment by Bryan Clark
2008-04-17 07:47:34

That’s an interesting and well thought out take on the matter, Jason.

As far as monetizing One Man’s Goal goes, it wasn’t rocket science. I can sum it all up in two words - recurring commissions. Believe it or not, I’ve had other blogs that have made more than One Man’s Goal, with less traffic. It’s all in the monetization strategy, and your ability to find programs that are beneficial enough to keep those who sign up to them, subscribed.

With recurring commissions, I didn’t have to constantly sell new things. Over half of the income that I reported came from several different affiliate programs, all paying recurring commissions. And obviously they weren’t bad programs, it doesn’t do me much good to sign someone up to something that’s going to pay me as long as they’re a member… if they are going to unsubscribe after a month.

One more thing I’d like to point out… the make money online niche is going down the tube in a hurry, and it’s all due to the negativity that seems to be reaching epidemic proportions. Things have changed a lot lately, and this certainly isn’t the tight-knit community it used to be. I guess this is because there are a few of us out there that think the pie isn’t big enough for everybody… so those that challenge their beliefs are met with semi-coherent ramblings on D-List blogs.

Here is the sad truth about Vic and his readers, and online marketing in general. 90+% of ebooks, info products, and courses out there WORK PERFECTLY. The reason people don’t see results is because they don’t want to follow the method. The same can be said for A-List bloggers. What they teach WORKS. However, there is a 1% rule. That rule states that 1% of people that venture into online marketing will ever make enough to sustain themselves financially from doing so. That leaves 99% of people out there to try and fail. Yet instead of pointing the finger where it belongs… themselves… they want to blame those that gave them the information and slap a “junk” label on it.

So 99% of people that follow methods taught by A-Listers (or anyone in general) will fail. When those 99% of people fail, they want to blame someone, so they blame the A-Listers. That’s when Vic steps in and speaks out against them becoming an instant hero to an army of failures. He teaches methods that seem new, yet are tried and tested many times over… and seems like he’s doing something different. When in reality, all he’s doing is bashing others, and creating an army of idiots. I’d go out on a limb to say that most of the people that weren’t making any cash online before Vic… still aren’t making any now that they follow him.

And the clincher to all of this is that he calls others names, and supposedly “calls them out” by saying they pitch affiliate products, and blah blah blah. Vic, you pitch affiliate products too… what makes you so damn holy? Does 100% of the income collected at BloggerNeedsLeashed.Com get donated to hungry orphans in Ethiopia? I can’t speak for all bloggers, but every product that I pitched, was tried and tested before it ever saw the front page of my blog. Get over yourself, and next time you want to “call me out” make sure you can back it up with facts.

I’m simply blown away at the amount of commentary throughout several different blogs on this matter. This was a fight that started between Vic and Bryan, and the individual (Marc), that bought OMG, unfortunately got yanked into the fight right off the bat.

Vic - well, he’s a tool. I wanted to try and sound professional, but couldn’t think of a better word to describe him. These people that claim Vic preaches the gospel of making money online must be VERY new to IM, because all Vic teaches - is how to make tons of niche sites filled with Adsense. What the fuck is so revolutionary about that? That’s as old as Vic himself (is that possible?)

The funny thing is Vic’s tough guy persona that he tries to project. I’ll admit, before I laughingly watched one of his videos, I thought, “hmm, maybe this guy really may be some sort of bad ass or someone who can at least back up their moutht”, - especially since he’s always telling people to fuck off, and that he would say it to their face blah blah blah - but when I saw his pasty white, doughnut shaped nutsack face, and the fact that he appears to have graduated high school the same year my grandfather did, I would LOVE, I mean LOVE to see him confront even half the people he’s called out at a Blogger Expo. I think he would probably revert back to wetting his pants, like he did when he was growing up. That poor bastard would be in for one hell of a surprise to say the least!

Anyway, to everyone else that chimes in with comments like “It’s not Marc’s fault that he got scammed and paid 10k for a blog that won’t make him back any money” - who the fuck are you to determine that? And also, who the fuck are you to comment on how another man spends his money? Have you ever bought a car? Yeah, you get fucked every time, but people don’t go around talking about it - and I’m not saying Marc got fucked, but it’s his business!

He may be young, but as a 24 year-old man, he can spend whatever he wants, whenever the he wants, and without your permission. And guess what, you can do the same! Half of you commenting about Marc only WISH you had a tenth of the stats that OMG has - and I definitely sense a lot of jealousy in some of your comments…but that’s natural.

Anyway, this isn’t a big fucking deal - websites with a hundredth of the potential of OMG get sold for a lot more on a daily basis, so all of your arguments are pretty lame - at best. Go about your business, keep up whatever progress you managed to make at this point, and let the guy do his thing.

So here is proof that franqui from blogger unleashed is a scammer and doesn’t know what he’s talking about:

1. He finds people that brag about their money obnoxious, yet bragging is the only thing that he does;
2. He thinks Amazon affiliate program sucks, yet now he wants to try it;
3. He makes people buy 100 info domains, and many persons got them deindexed by Google;
4. He thinks feed count doesn’t matter, yet he is very proud nowadays of his feed count;
5. He bashes persons like Yaro Starak or John Chow, yet when John Chow comments on his blog, all he can say is “kudos to you”;
6. His only answer to anyone who contradicts him is foul language, when he can’t really argument his claims;
7. He makes 20k / month and runs hundreds of sites and doesn’t have time for anything, yet he doesn’t hire help (maybe because he can’t afford it?);
8. He thinks that submitting the same article to hundreds of article directories will actually help your rankings;
9. His only goal is to tell his readers to buy ClickBank products through his affiliate links, even if there are cheaper and better options available;
10. He thinks there’s no money in the “make money online” niche, yet he is very proud he got into top 20 for “make money online”;
11. He doesn’t have time for his blog, yet he is almost always there – maybe because he is not actually making any money with other websites?
12. He first hates Darren Rowse, then he loves him for his feed count. Talk about integrity, huh?

There you have it. I’m sure there are more, but I can’t waste anymore time with this idiot.

Vic is doing his contest thing now with like 100 bloggers. You guys know about it…Here’s what I think would be REALLY COOL…

Why don’t Bryan and Vic have a contest of their own? Loser gives his best blog to the winner.

This would be good because:

1. One of you would EARN the respect and credibility of the MMO niche en mass!!

2 It would end this nonsense.

3. it would generate huge interest for both parties involved

4. the vast majority of readers could benefit greatly from the insight gained by observing a good ‘heavyweight’ match.

5. I would get credit for this awesome idea! :grin:
