We just got notified per email by Marco Richter that we made it into yet another hot top 10/50/100 list. Ranking number 12 in the “Top Blogs About Blogging” list, we’re pleased to see that we still kick ass, even though we’re now on a list that just names blogs about blogging.
Mark’s top 100 list of money making blogs from 45n5 is actually a great list that has been sending us about 20 uniques every day since it’s been launched. We’ve secured our spot at number 8 there. Wonder how many visitors the top 3 gets on that list. Oh we’ll here’ just another plug for Mark –it serves us well 
Then there’s Blogstorm’s top 100 list of UK blogs. An incredible 4th place is what we managed to grab there, just behind the big boys like mashable.com and allaboutsymbian.com. That’s because we’re in Ireland and are in fact, half English ourselves.
So thanks to yet another list, we’re starting to get a bit of an identity crisis. Are we really a blog about blogging? A blog about making money online? We don’t know anymore. We know we’re a blog that’s making money online, but have a look at our archives — what’s the last article that was actually helpful for those of you that want to make money online? It seems that you really don’t have to talk about money all the time to actually make some. Try to diversify your blog’s contents and you’ll reap the benefits of getting linked more by other niches.
We find that the best ingredient to make money online with a blog is the blogger’s personality. Find your own voice and follow your instincts. Don’t follow the herd because there’s already too many bloggers that do exactly that, and they’re the ones that won’t get noticed.

How very true Cow, so many people out there regurgitate the same old make money online posts, they might do better and actually make more money online writing about a less saturated niche.
I guess it’s a double edged sword for those who make a living from blogging, change the formula and risk your revenue, don’t change the formula and let others risk it for you. Maybe some people may have to resurrect their old day job.
I think the don’t follow the herd statement is absolutely true. I have been taking a break from my actual blogging activities for a week now to think of the direction where I want to head my blog towards. Will probably make a clear decision in a week or two.

A good point you’ve made that most “Blogs About Blogging” contain anything but. A few people stay focused but I’m sure it’s hard coming up with original material these days.
I think your niche spans several subjects since that’s what your target audience likes to read - subjects like making money online, SEO, blogging about blogging, technology products, random funny stuff that techies like, and uh…cow pictures

Do you find it helps that there are 2 of you blogging together (it is 2 right?). You talked about blog content diversity; do you think that being able to bounce article ideas (and cow jokes) off each other has made a big difference to the success of the blog, as opposed to just one person writing alone?
