There’s An $1800 Prize Money Contest Going On

Thor ‘Son of Odin’ Schrock emailed us a couple of days ago to make sure we were aware of the big contest he’s running at the moment on his blog. The mighty Thor (sorry, we read to many comic books 
) just found out that he’s the top affiliate in Joel Comm’s Secret Classroom affiliate program. To show Joel that he should have picked Thor over Jamie Luchuck and Charles Trippy to become the next Internet millionaire, Thor is trying his best to rub it in Joel’s face by storming the search engines. He needs help and is willing to fork out $1800 in prizes for anyone that is willing to lend him a hand. We figured why not!
A summary of what you can win:
- To get right in your face the first prize is $1000 yoyos via Paypal. That’s a whopping shopping amount for anyone this Christmas!
- Second there’s a premium Joel Comm DVD set worth $497. Thor received this while he was on the Next Internet millionaire.
- Third prize is a $300 22″ Acer LCD screen for all your blogging and gaming needs.
All you have to do to enter this contest is do a little blog post about it, and add a link to your blogroll. You can actually get up to 28 more entries in the contest if you add a few other blogs to your blogroll, including us and some guy named Shoemoney. Obviously you good people already have us as listed as best friends in your blogroll, so there’s 3 free entry points out of 28 already! How easy was that huh?
Deadline is 31st of December and it looks like there’s still plenty of opportunity to get going in Thor’s contest!

Thor lost? Yea, I didn’t really watch the show (I was rooting for him though after seeing him on Shoemoney), but I might take part in this contest.
Prizes are tempting, I gonna give it a try. Good luck to me..
Only problem with bigger bloggers taking part in competitions like this is when they win it looks completely rigged and setup…like a couple I have seen. Sure, there are just as good odds for a big name blogger to win but their “luck” always seems to be extra lucky.
When it comes down to it, “drawing” a big name as the winner is good for business because odds are they will blog about winning your comp and you get more exposure for your investment. But sucks for those that actually think they have a chance for a “random” drawing.
*not saying this is one of those at all, just that I have seen it a bit too often to get excited about these things anymore.

Domain name tips, i couldn’t agree with you more. There’ll always be the sceptics even if the “big guy” was legitimately drawn the winner. I used random.org to draw my competition and saved off the entire results as screen captures as proof should i really need to defend myself.

It is general feeling across the blogosphere. The luckier big guns get lucky every day. Others just go home.
Neil has also gone for the better option. But I think Randomizer is also screwed (for eg. you can never get an one digit number as a random number).
The good old method of printing out the numbers and getting someone to draw the lot (and video-graphing it) is better option. You can cheat here too.
Just make sure you don’t cheat, even if others would. (I will not, on December 18 morning).

What social bookmarking plugin do you use at the end of your posts?
Yeah, it’s a tricky situation. I think most honest bloggers that run big completions would rather actually “cheat” the other way around and do what they can to make sure the big bloggers don’t win because even if they happen to actually get lucky everyone will just assume it is rigged. So it goes both ways.
I just know that every “drawing” that I have seen where the most popular person won, even if I had trusted the contest blogger before it gives me that sketchy feeling and then I question the motives whenever I read it again, if I go back.
I think video is a decent method and can also be good to get a bit more viral chatter about results as well. I mean as corny as some of the result videos we have seen on the chow have been, it’s still a bit entertaining and more believable than some random post.
Regardless though, none of that has anything to do with this specific contest and it’s definitely a great prize. Good luck to everyone!

I don’t know about his one, but Google sociable. Sociable is a plugin which adds allthat but with icons.
Steve thanks for the help. I ended up figuring out which one he uses though. Believe it or not the name of the plugin is “ShareThis” lol. Guess I should have thought of that one.
