The Numbers For August Are In!

Can you believe it? We’ve been here for two months now and things just keep getting better! Us cows are living proof that anyone can make it in the blogosphere if only you try your hardest! The interesting thing when we breakdown the numbers is that we’re really just starting to look at the opportunities we have with this blog for making money online.
Some fresh stats for August for those of you who are curious exactly how well we’re doing. And thanks for making it possible for us to even post these numbers. Wouldn’t have been close without you guys!

  • Unique Visitors - 69,990. That’s an increase compared to last month’s 67,457 and we didn’t even get Dugg!
  • Pageviews - 471,467. That’s 5.3 pages per visit. Again an improvement over last month’s 377,332 which equals to 4.75 pages per visit.
  • Bandwidth Used - 16,88GB Slightly less than last month’s 16,92GB. That’s great because bandwidth costs money!
  • Google Searches. - The top 5 searchphrases that landed readers here via Google: “john chow, win a ps3, johncow, win a playstation 3, john chow dot com”. We’re #1 on Google if you’re looking for the award winning superstar blogger John Chow!
  • Technorati Stats - 4,749. Last time we got through to the top 10k. Now we’re comfortably hanging around with the top 5k most popular blogs in the world!
  • Alexa Stats - 25,760. Quite an improvement from 62,262 eh?
  • Community Members - 537. Awesome! We’re over here if you’re not part of our MyBlogLog community yet!
  • Blog Stats - There are currently 129 posts and 4,120 comments (Thanks Steven!) contained within 14 categories.
  • RSS Subscribers - 344 people love watching us making money online every day
  • Random Cool Accowplishments - We managed to get the ProBlogger to comment a number of times! We had several people interested in buying us for $10,000 and we actually said no! Guess that new Macbook Pro is gonna have to wait a bit longer.

And those are the traffic/random facts of JohnCow’s month of August. As for revenue, things have changed a bit too.

  • Google Adsense - $60,80 Dairy products still don’t make a lot of money on Adsense but we have seen more and more site targeted ads being bought so this number is increasing slowly. About $20 more than last July anyway.
  • AuctionAds / Text Link Ads: Combined $77,75 We quit TTZ Media since AuctionAds was doing much better for us. Then of course, AuctionAds got bought by another company and earnings have dropped nearly 70%! We’re gonna stick with them though since we know they can be great money makers as soon as they get their things sorted again.
  • Reviews - $500 We only had three reviews and one of them got a $100 discount since they got us some free advertising. Since this part of the blog s the biggest money earner by far, we’ve decided to actively start spreading the word about our reviews. There’s a few things in place which should draw more people to the reviews. Funny fact; Today we received 3 review requests which is giving us a nice headstart for this month
  • Milk Received- $21 in total. We should change this to “Buy us a new bike” since our brand new one got stolen yesterday.
  • Other Income - $675 from our main sponsors. The coolest web hosting company out there has given us a dedicated dual core server worth $175 per month. They’re also the ones that sponsor our current $500 cash competition. Even though it’s not money in our pocket, it is money we’d have to spend ourselves otherwise! They’ll save you some money too if you use the discount coupon “JohnCowRocks” on any of their hosting products!

Total earnings for August: $1334,55

So, who’s getting 50% of the ad revenue this month? Remember we said we weren’t picking the top commentator anymore because this led to what looked like a comment spam race? The commentator we’d like to thank for his contributions in August just happens to be the top commentator too! Steven Truong showed to be a great guy and is always willing to help out by answering other commentators questions. Steven, please email us your paypal details and we’ll gladly sent you $69,25 which is half of August’s ad revenue.

All in all a great second month but it’s still not enough to make us quit our day job unfortunately. With the new theme coming up, we should be able to generate more moolah next time because it will have more opportunities to sell ads and we’re gonna look into monetizing our RSS feeds since everyone else seems to be doing so! With the 3 review requests that just got in, we’re off to a great start in September and we’re aiming for anything over $1500!

Great job. Man, 2,000 visitors/day that’s awesome. I wish I could get 1,000 ad impressions a month in two of my sites. GOOD JOB COWS

I’ll just have to work hard on it. Unfortunately my blog is the lesser of my online income. But we’ll see how it develops.

Its kinda funny but sad that johncow ranks better for john chow than johnchow.com does, Also congrats those are amazing stats for a few month old blog though you should be making way more than you are with them and hopefully the new theme helps out.

P.S. the whole using commas instea of periods in numbers is a bit wierd.

His new theme will really help since he will be able to sell ad spots and keep the money instead of getting half or less through an ad company.

After John Chow, ProBlogger, Slyvisions (my site) and a few other blogs redesigned their site, it’s as if the rest of the blogosphere did too. It’s nice to see the new looks though!

I think its should be a common to do every couple years or at least until you find a theme you like. I’ve changed my theme around 4-5 times within the last 6 months and am still tweaking other ones behind the scene as we speak. Not everyone is changing their theme only because John Chow and Problogger recently did. I think having a new theme or tweaking the layout of a current theme gives the readers a refreshing feel when they visit their favorite blogs

Well done Mr Moo, very impressive.

Your pages views compared to the amount of visitors is amazing, this is something I am working on increasing on my site, lets hope our new template helps with that (if we ever get it finished).

Keep up the good work :)

Wow !

I was just reading the Big Beef’s blog, and guess what Mad Cows, you beat him on pageviews this month.

From his blog

‘Blog traffic in August was 337,852 page views from 170,465 visitors. A nice increase from the 319,165 page views posted the month before.’

That is pretty damn impressive :)

I had that stats two years ago with Truden Web Site, but even now I can not make a cent with it.

In Bulgaria to make money online you need ten times more than you show here, Cow.

Thanks for the congrats. I prefer to increase number of unique visitors than pageviews and retain those same visitors. Pageviews will come along with the loyal readers.

Comment by GnomeyNewt
2007-09-02 02:08:56

If I can keep those few visitors I get, the better is how I see it. That way I don’t have to keep trying to get new visitors to like my site if the ones that have already come stay! What do you think?

I think its best to always try and increase the number of visitors you get, not just avoid getting new visitors to like your site and have ones that already come to stay. You should always try to increase new visitors, retain, and continue to increase from there; rinse, wash, and repeat

Haha. Speaking of cows being able to make money online, I have to give you props on that “John” (Bob). It was a really nice idea that could have never been though of by me. And by looking at your income on August, it surely has to be the best thing you have ever done right?

@Alex

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s easy. It may be easy compare to a lot of other methods of generating income in the world but it can also be difficult in many ways. And just so we’re clear, making $2.00 off adsense don’t really count as making money online LOL, however it is a start.

When your income flattens out like that it’s time to think about change. How to get more visitors, how to extract more money from your existing visitors?

When my sites have leveled of it’s normally because my effort with them has as well :)

3 months for that kind of progress isn’t bad. Or do you mean it took you long to generate that kind of income but for 3 months you haven’t been able to increase it?

2007-09-02 15:35:59

Haha. You’re not the only one.

I must admit being very jealous, well I guess envious more likely, that you can have such volume of traffic. I guess I will like to learn a thing of two from you guys. So subscribe me yeh!!!!

Even with your traffic, earnings from Adsense is only 60+ per month. I think I need to rethink my Adsense strategy. :(
