When I search my name I get a Vicar, a racing car driver, a footballer, a poet, and a boxer. None of them are me! What you get depends on how common your name is. And it seems that mine is quite common.

I’ve searched mine and many other people’s.

Mine brings up my social network sites and my forum username profile’s.

If I search my girlfriends sister and go on images – my twitter profile image appears, odd!

I think Eric Schmidt from google is right when he says that if you use the internet you have to be clear about the fact that the information is not private. Any information that you send over a network can end up being hacked. I used to be very careful with many social websites, however, I am becoming more and more open with my (non-private) information. If somebody searches for my name, they’ll find publications, my blog, they’ll know my age, some of my opinions on politics, my passport number (from a government publication of scholarships), and several countries where I’ve been living. I think it could be worse.

found the meaning of my middle name when searching LINNEA which I already knew. http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Linnea

Don’t come up with me to much when using debbie sargent…most are younger girls swimming the internet. Face book is full , as well as MySpace.

Have come up with more results with the DLSargent and full page(s) with the SWEDISGNOM handle, which I seem to get the best results.

Thanks for this link, have always used google to track or find others, use this trick with FB , MySpace, Twitter, etc.

Excellent idea to write about this.

I can relate to it as in fact, a couple years back, when I started my IM adventure… I never thought of that – at least for a while, but in the end…

I found out that the first 2 pages of SERPs were full of the name ‘Steve Lorenzo’ – how nice, you would think, maybe?

Not exactly!

It happens that I shared my name with a well known serial killer whose name was plastered all around the Internet due to the high media exposure it get when he was caught and trialed.

The next few months, I had to put all my efforts into building lots of SN profiles, write articles, make videos, bookmark them all and hope to outrank the guy, he, he… (fingers crossed: hope he stays put)

Now, that is in fact, what brought me to the SEO world of FUN! I enjoy it so much now, when I can prodly search for my name on Google (of course it is not ONLY that!)

For the benefit of others who may have the same problems, I even wrote an ebook and shot some videos on how to employ Social Media and networks to achieve such a goal.

Not a whole lot going on for me in the Google world although I admit that this kind of service could definitely come in handy. I guess it ultimately depends on how strong of an emphasis you are putting on branding.

I like this post. I have some good SEO work going on with my sites, but I have to admit, I have neglected my name. I have a famous actor, a famous painter, and a famous photographer all with the same name. I have basically just left it alone. But now I think that I might just outrank them yet, without tons of SEO work for a keyword that won’t have much ROI.
