Shut Up and get to work

This is just a rant and we are not sure why it got under our hide so bad, but it did and so we are blogging about it!
Here is the conversation that we over heard…
Girl 1: “I need a job really bad”
Girl 2: “The restaurant is hiring”
Girl 1: “No, I mean a decent job”
Cow: “Hmmm… obviously she cant need a job that bad”
Now to be completely honest, as frustrated as we got with this girl, she made us think about some things that really got our minds racing. How many of us out there are just like this girl, sitting there waiting for the “Perfect” situation to happen, the…
BIG RED BUTTON
We want things to fall into place and do it with as little effort as possible. We want to be hand fed.
So many of us are afraid of the “W” word but the fact is “WORK” (yes, that is the W word) is a necessary part of getting what we want out of life.
Looking back at that girl, put yourself in the position of a potential employer… who would you rather hire?
Girl A: Currently working in a greasy spoon type restaurant, has always been employed
Girl B: Not working and has never had a job because it is not the type of job she likes
OK, we realize that there is more to it then that. Obviously education and a few other things are factors as well but the way we look at it, if someone is not employed and the main reason is they do not want to work at certain places and would rather be unemployed then work there, what is going to be their work effort when you need them to do jobs they are not going to like doing?
Now to take this a step further, lets look at the MMO world. Obviously their is money in selling the BIG EASY RED BUTTON… just look at ClickBank and what their best selling items are. They are always some software or ebook that promises to help you make mooney faster then you ever dreamed possible at the top of the list.
Is this wrong?
Absolutely Not! We all want things to be easy, we all want greener pastures and we all want to have more time to enjoy life and not stress over money. What we think is wrong however is the mindset that…
“I should not have to work for it”
Look at big successful companies and entrepreneurs. It is easy to look at them and convince ourselves that it was easy for them, that they are so lucky, that we deserve what they have and more.
Now give your head a shake and open your eyes. These people achieved what they did because they worked there asses off for it. There is no magical button, formula or software that will make anyone in this world successful if they are not willing to do one important thing…
WORK
Get off your ass and stop making excuses. If you have a full time job and want to start your own business then suck it up and realize you are going to need to get up earlier and stay up later to work on your business. If you never have time, then make time and stop convincing yourself you are so much busier then everyone else. Stop telling yourself “if only I had this” it would be better… face it, you are stuck with what you got so work with it and make it better.
There, glad we got that off our chests!

These are all very good points, John Cow! I always look to work for and with people who don’t mind making sacrifices to get ahead.
My friends and family joke with me because I always have 3 or 4 “jobs” as well as participating with civic and professional organizations. I have come to learn that WORK is a 4 letter word, but a good one - because I reap the benefits every day!

I agree that work is something that people are afraid of. I wrote a free ebook and looking at my stats now(400+ downloads), people are even afraid of a little work. You can’t have everything for free.
And if you want to make money online, you need to invest time and some money(to go faster).

Johncow,
Having a full time job can feed me. To go extra mile, I have to explore new things.
Have a nice day.

Excellent point cow,
Last year when I was 17 my parents had complained that I had no money for college and that they were not going to pay for it all. They argued and argued with me to get a job. I first was just like this girl. So instead of going and getting a job, I made a job. Created my own websites and made tons of cash. Bought my own car, xbox360, brand new laptop, and have tons to spare for college. I just sold a portion of my websites(I kept my best site) for $20,000! Woo hoo first year of college paid, and I still have my best moneymaking site!
Chances are most people won’t be like this. Had I not gotten extremely lucky with my business I too would be broke, and complaining about it. It is a very bad viewpoint and you best just go get the job. But I guess in my case it worked out.

great comments, john. the idea that success should comes easy really lessens the thrill of making it! the rewards seem greater after hard work
thanks
great post. You are talking about one of the biggest issues/problems in the past 20-30 years with people. As an employer (I run 2 companies with around 100 total employees) we see it every single day. People just DO NOT want to work hard. There is very little pride in anyone’s work and it is incredible how many people are just “punching the clock” each day and watching their watch to see how many minutes there are until their next smoke break, lunch break, or excuse to go to the bathroom. And if you are lucky enough to find one, just one person who does show pride and does work hard and does overachieve, it is typically only a short time before they are demotivated by the sub par and substandard efforts of others around them which results in them having to alway do extra work to cover/carry everyone else.
And your example about the restaurant is maddening to me. There ARE TONS AND TONS of jobs available. the attitude that jobs are “below” them is sickening and disgusting. If I was to lose my job tomorrow I would work at a gas station, then a supermarket and then a restaurant - 3 shifts if I had to, just to get by. i would live in a small apartment and do whatever it took to survive. The younger generation today wants it all handed to them. They dont want to work. They want to start at the top instead of working their way up. They feel “entitled” to this advancement and position without any justification. it makes me sick.
I could go on and on, but I have to go back to doing the work others did poorly just to make sure it all gets done. Sad, just sad.

“but I have to go back to doing the work others did poorly”
lol
The work place has also changed in that time. Employees are mostly seen as numbers and not persons in most companies but not all. So, employees don’t have the same strong relation as before to their company. One minute, they work and the other they are laid off for many reasons. If a person gets laid off often, it’s normal that they tend to work for the paycheck only. Most younger employees want to balance work and play and not be working machine like their parents.
What I hear around me is that most companies are worst than before. They cut jobs and increase workload(often too much) for the remaining workers. After that, they wonder why employees feel like they do.
When I was young, they talked about the 4 days of work per week society and often said: “Go to college or university and you will get an high paying jobs when you get out.” They were sold a dream and they believe it that they think they are entitled. I can’t blame them for that. One of my nephew told me that a counselor told a student that he would make 40K/year when he would got out of school. The funny thing is that it was in my field and it would had made 30K/year if very lucky.
Me, I work more hours than before because I have my own business now. It’s not the same when you work for yourself than for someone else.
I try to understand both side of the issue. This time, I look at their side

Steve, you and I are looking at it all differently because we own businesses. We work harder then others because our responsibilities are different in the overall equation. What I would give for 2 or 3 “mini mes” from the days I was coming up and working hard to be successful. I would be willing to give them the “keys to the castle”, but I just can’t seem to find them these days. That is the frustrating part. It is not treating them like “numbers” it is producing. I dont care what the situation is as an employee you MUST produce and do your job to the fullest. But most employees fall short. This IS NOT a bitch session about employees because it is what it is in today’s world. it has become the norm to underachieve while still expecting to be moved up and promoted. that is the problem. The acceptance of this attitude.

Good Post Cow and good comments Political. I ran a business for 15 years and finally sold it because I got tired of working 7 days a week. I also wish people would understand, that the purpose of a business is to make money, not to give you a job. If your work does not pull in enough to at least pay your salary than why should I keep you and how am I supposed to give you a raise?
sorry, end of rant!

You’re absolutely right Jhon, many of us want to do things but do not find the time, but when they have time, do nothing.
There is a proverb in French “Lorsqu’on veut, on peut”, “When we want, we can”
Kaiss last blog post..Proposez des sujets à vos blogs préférés
I don’t really think it is laziness that prevents people succeeding - it is more a case of procrastination. At the end of the day, there will always be laundry, bill-paying, Lost etc. that “needs” attending to. Even if you allocate an hour per day to your blog (if part-time) then that is still 7 hours a week which is better than zero hours a week. Plenty of time to promote the blog or write a few small articles/forum posts.

As said on the WezeeMall about a job:
…even though you’ll only be just over broke, that’s better than being always broke.
Use this while you build your business until you consistently make 3-4 times more than your job.
Calebs last blog post..Serving The Ads The WordPress Way
You hit the nail on the head plain and simple when you asked the question from a companies stand point about the person in question not wanting certain types of work, and then when a situation came up about wanting to do a task that was not up their alley would they just be lazy and quit? Thats an important note for all you people not working at any job waiting.
