We wrote this Monday night watching Paranormal State on TV and yes we know it is not a ground breaking strategy but we thought it was newsworthy and a good post to schedule for the weekend… which will probably be old news to some of you by the time this is posted… please do not hate us for being beautiful 
We received an e-mail last Monday morning from Google and many of you may have gotten the same thing. In the last week of August, Google will be ‘retiring’ their Adsense Referrals program.
Instead of their Adsense Referral program they are now going to use the Google Affiliate Network. What this is going to allow is now publishers are going to apply for an advertiser program and then get paid based on advertiser-defined actions instead of the usual clicks or impressions.
What this means is that let’s say you have less then 3 Adsense for content ad units on a page, you may want to replace the referral ad units with the standard Adsense for content ad units. So at the beginning of the last week in August, the Adsense referrals code is no longer going to be displayed.
What Google wants us all to do is this:

Remove their referral codes from your websites
-
Run and save all of your referrals reports on your desktops (So you can continue to have access to your valuable campaign information.)
So you may be asking WHY is this happening?
Google says that they are always looking for new ways to improve Adsense to drive the best monetization results for their publishers. They feel that retiring Google Referrals is in everybody’s best interest.
Now alot of people may not see this as a big deal, since from the sounds of it it’s just the referrals and not adsense itself.
Honestly if they are retiring the Adsense referrals then it clearly wasn’t a big money maker for Google…. and personally we have never seen much from it anyway.
Now a down fall about this is for the people who have to remove the referral codes from their websites.

I also got this email as well. I never used Adsense refferals though so it didn’t really bother me to much.

I don’t use Adsense Referrals except a few places and they also don’t give me satisfactory income. So basically, its retirement doesn’t bother me.
Lets hope for the best that Google Affiliate Network does a good job if not wonders. :wink:

Many of us do want to earn via affiliate networks and if Google is going to provide us this opportunity then it is more than enough. So, now google will offer CPA based ads like CJ and others and most of ads will be paid per action . This should have been done ages ago.

I never did the referals. Doing ok with adsense. If they do replace it with a CJ type system, that would be cool. It is always hard to find trustworthy ones and we know we can trust Google, right?!?
So John, what made you start adding adsense again?

If have my serious doubts on the entire adsense program now. First it was the adsense referral of $250. Now, it’s the referrals itself. Wonder where Google plans to take internet advertising too…
I never used it, so it does not affect me.
In fact, I just got hosting for a dozen of my 160-plus domain names yesterday, so I am psyched to start posting some Adsense ads on them- yipee!
I have totally lost my faith in google adsense, both for referrals and regular work. I have seen them screw with too many people. They suspended one local blogger for having too many questionable clicks. He has 5000 subscribers according to feedburner most the dayton metro area, the area he blogs about and google thought it odd how many of his clicks came from this area, I have seen google disappear from a lot of big name blogs too and wonder if they too are being hit suspended accounts. I in fact have removed them from every blog in my network and started putting up bidvertiser to see just how ruthless google with accounts. I just get too heavy traffic spikes with equally heavy clicks for them not to notice one day. I much prefer a little lower payments to a fickle provider deciding to cancel accounts because I get lucky with digg and stumbleupon occassionally.

Hadn’t had the chance to try adsense referrals , I’m pretty sure google will surprise us soon with a new addition.
I haven’t tried their referal program and by seeing your poll results I thought I hadnt lost anything. Lets wait what new will come out….
Well, I’m still waiting to see what the new Google Affiliate is up to. So far, I have no offer.
