One From The Old School

Who here remembers Chuckie Egg? Originally released for the ZX Spectrum, the game also made it onto the Commodore 64, Amstrad, Atari and a bunch of other platforms. Chuckie Egg was this crazy platform game in which the player controlled Hen-House Harry, making him run around like crazy collecting eggs before they got eaten by chickens. While there were no cows involved, we still had great fun with those cluckers.
How’s that for an old-school flashback? One dude who knows all about the old school is CMan. We’re not sure how much of his time he’s spent running around hen houses, but CMan has been online since the Internet was born. But wait: what the heck is a “CMan?” Well, Cman is Johnathan Long, a 30-year-old web entrepreneur who used to “finger” people on the Internet (check his “About Me” page if you don’t believe us).
Johnathan is also the author of cmansmoneypages.blogspot.com, which is the subject of this free review he won. So what makes an old-timer tick? And why does he call himself CMan (say it fast; it’s kind of gross, right?).
On his About Me page, Johnathan writes that he started using the Internet in 1993, when most of us were just calves playing with conkers. Although he’s tried his hand at a number of different websites, “Profitable Productive Blogging” is Johnathan’s first attempt at a blog.

His posts date back to the year 2000, although a six year gap in posting has us thinking he doctored his early posts. In reality, it looks like his blog has been active since March this year. Profitable Productive Blogging is another make-money-online blog. First up, it’s on a Blogspot domain. Come on CMan! If a Cow can get his own domain, surely an Internet guru can get one.
The enormous header is the first thing you’ll notice. Most of the stuff above the fold would be better used as a footer. The template uses two columns, and although navigation is easy enough, you have to scroll right down to get to the “Labels” section of the blog.
Johnathan’s blog is about many things, including making money online, saving money online, tech news, traffic building, and tips and tricks. There are almost than 200 posts to sift through, posted at an average of about one every two days.
Some of the posts that caught our eyes:
- Write Passionately! Great Advice Folks, Now How? which sees Johnathan writing about how to be more passionate with your writing.
- Dance The Success 2 Step with La Cense, which is a product review of the affiliate program La Cense Beef (it’s cow-related, yo!)
- Internal Links, Anchor Text, SEO, & Reader Loyalty is a great post about how to build up internal links.
The main draw of Johnathan’s blog are his posts about affiliate marketing, which is his main source of online income. There are some real gems tucked away in there and Johnathan’s content is easy enough to read.
Recently, Johnathan offered banners for $10 a month and text links for $2 a month. His blog probably isn’t going to make him rich any time soon, and it only has a PR2 at the moment, but it is updated regularly with decent content.
Johnathan’s theme is a bit cluttered, but if he’d buy his own domain and start using Wordpress, he’d have one killer blog. Johnathan’s wealth of experience means that he knows what he’s talking about. His RSS feed is worth a try in your reader. But alas, we still have no idea what “CMan” means.
Ah. We keep having flashbacks of great, early gaming memories. It’s enough to make us want to dust off our copies of Paperboy, Repton and R-Type. What about when Street Fighter 2 revolutionized the beat ‘em up genre, and how could we forget Mortal Monday? Nostalgia is a great thing. Thanks for the flashback, CMan.

“His RSS feed is a worth a try in your reader.” Shouldn’t it be “His RSS feed is worth a try in your reader.”?
Apart from that, a great, well written review!
Yeah I remember chuckie egg. In fact I have a Commodore 64 sitting on my desk downstairs surrounded by a freaky collection of games, mags & books. I don’t think I have Chuckie Egg though… hmm off to eBay!
