Money keyword research… what the heck is that?
One of the things that drives me absolutely nuts is people that are sucked into those paid services that tell you they will give you loads of keywords that you can dominate in the search engines with based on their competition/traffic ratios.
This on paper sounds great… well sort of. The problem is if the keywords are not associated with…
- The product you want to sell
- A buying audience
… well then you may as well just make up some random long tail term like “peanut butter race car stripes” and focus on that. You can then easily just rank in the search engines with little effort… your traffic will suck but hey you will be in the top position of Google!
The fact of the matter is, if you want to make money online in this affiliate game then you can not just look at traffic and competition ratios. The strategy I recommend to use is…
- Identify the product or service you want to promote. I personally always like to start with the product first. yes you can match a product later but i have always had better luck with starting with the product.
- Check the demand and market. Why reinvent the wheel… find something that is currently making money and figure out where the low hanging fruit is.
- Create a large list of keywords. I just use Google free keyword tools for this, it is fantastic data and free… a win+win!
- Filter the keywords based on your criteria. I use my free tool for this… you can get a free copy (100% no restrictions and unlimited use)… just click here.
- Identify winning words and confirm traffic. Once you find those good words, you want to double check that the traffic is truly there… no use wasting time on a word that will send you no visitors.
- Check keyword ranking results competition (ensure it is not attacked already by affiliates). Ensure that you are not competing against highly optimized and high authority sites PLUS ensure that the rankings are not already filled with Squidoo, Youtube and other web2 sources that show a high “seo affiliate” focus.
This strategy has never failed me and is what I use every time I research a keyword to market a specific product or service.

Excellent advice… who cares if you rank for a keyword that doesn’t cause anyone to take out their wallet? Definitely a great way to work smarter rather than harder
Good strategy Jason. The only thing I would add to that is a caveat not to invest too much initial time into the product niche until the results actually confirm the initial research.
So do the initial keyword research as you’ve outlined, setup a quick website or blog with five articles, do a bit of promotion and move on to researching new keywords for another product.
Rinse & repeat, cast a wide net and spend little time on each. You can then invest more time and dig deeper into the niches & products that you find are bringing the best results.

Well, this indeedly sounds like a way to do it. I guess it is time to actually take and action now!
I have been endlessly researching different tools for seo and keyword domination and I just had to comment on this post.
With out question, the fastest results and the biggest bang for your buck is with Web 2 Mayhem.
With most other services, you would need three tools purchased seperately to get the same job done as with Web2Mayhem.
An all in one tool and a great price too.

Great post. Sometimes the simplest approach works best. It got me thinking though that no matter what, when a guru takes the same info and gives it a fancy name; they will still always have an market of rabid buyers. Thanks for keeping it real.
Yes, the conundrum is always how to attract web surfers and/or web searchers who have money and are ready and willing to spend it on finding a solution to a problem they were surfing for. This can be depressing! (ha! see link above
“Money keyphrases” are what we need. If Keyword Corral helps us accomplish this feat, then it’s a winner in my book.

I regard Keyword Corral as a “must have” tool to explore niches and investigate which keywords are worth building a business around.

Ranking well is not difficult, ranking well for a popular relevant search term is a whole other story.
I was really unsure that this tool would actually be useful, but after going through the training for it I can honestly that I LOVE IT! Works like a charm and I have so many ideas I want to use with it now.

Cool post Jason, I’m currently going through all the videos on thirtydaychallenge website. They offer a program called market samurai – which is awesome but it costs a fair amount when there are free resources out there already that do the same thing (pretty much)

I’ve been using this for while now and it’s a great system.
It’s a great idea to start with the product. The scattergun approach of thinking of a niche and then looking for products just wastes too much time these days. We have to focus in very tightly now I think.

Hey this is a great keyword research strategy
you cover all the important points, most people leave out at least 1 of these.
I would even search inside popular sites and see what content is popular inside those sites for long tail keywords
If I didn’t personally beta test your Web2Mayhem software, I would probably not believe the power and how ridiculously fast it is. Must you give Keyword Corral away for free though!
A complete comprehensive keyword system laid out step by step, what more could anyone ask for. I wish I had this 5 years ago. I would be living in fat city by now.

I liked your explanation of the different kinds of keywords. Some keywords may have a lot of searches but I’ve found that when they are informational they don’t convert into sales very well. So finding “money keywords” is definitely the first step.

These tools can be a lot interesting and thanks for sharing the free opportunity man! I’ve been spending some just to filter on better keyword searches and having this for free will be just great. I would like to stress on better relevance because it’s the most difficult part I’ve ever faced.
this is really good for internet marketing lot of folks out there are not totally impressed with the way alot of online marketers exhibit tools that don’t work, well I hope to see this works
