MMO Bubble Bursting? There Is No Bubble!
| Share |
The original title we had in mind for this post was “Garry Conn-Man”, but we decided to kill two birds with one stone. Its a two in one post, so pay attention.
The MMO ‘bubble’ is not about to burst. There is no bubble! Posts are popping up left and right about the demise and downfall of the MMO niche in the blogging circuit. Well guess what kids – just because you can’t make money with your blog, doesn’t mean its the end of this niche. In fact, we strongly believe that it will keep growing and with only a select few on top. Survival of the fittest and all that good stuff.
Here’s a mere observation we’ve made in the time we have spent in this niche; some of us are confusing the blogosphere for the Internet. Just because the people that have spent some time in the niche became savvy, and don’t buy your ebooks or click your ads anymore, doesn’t mean the end is near.
Just an example: A few days ago, poopoo hit the fan when a newbie got crushed for no apparent reason. He bought a MMO blog, and having barely finished publishing his first post, the whole MMO niche was talking about him. Now we’re sure he’s happy enough with all the attention he’s getting (there is no such thing as bad press), but we were flabbergasted by how cunning a few bloggers really turned out to be.
Take Garry Conn, someone that had been in our IM list for a while, and with whom we chatted every now and again. He smelled an opportunity and took it, by ’standing up’ and shouting that most MMO bloggers are jerks, and that he is different, that he is nothing like that.
He has condemned the way people are making money in the MMO niche. We’re all jerks! We’re not supposed to set up a blog, put a lot of hard work in it, create and maintain traffic, attract advertisers and when the time comes, sell it to someone to take over! Nooooo, that’s naughty! Shame on you for trying to convert your hard work and time into a nice payoff. You’re all scammers, get back to finding ways to sell whatever affiliate programs you endorse, squeezing the most out of your adsense ads and discover more niches where there’s money to be made.
Here’s our question: where is all that money coming from? There has to be someone out there that keeps bringing in the money, right? But it can’t be one of your peers who is paying the bill, that’s just not done. You need to focus on the big group out there on the Internet, the group that has never even heard of blogging, let alone the MMO niche. Is it ok to try and make money off them? Don’t forget that its not Google that pays you your adsense check every month, its the people that buy the advertising on your blogs, via Google.
There is a whole world online, just outside of your little MMO niche people! Did you know that there’s just 1,319,872,109 people online at this time? Meaning there’s another five out of six people that have never set foot online! What do you mean the bubble is bursting? There’s at least room for another 5.3 BILLION to come into the bubble before anything starts remotely bursting.
Garry disappointed surprised us with the way he reacted. Jumping into the little stir that was caused by the sale of OneMansGoal, projecting himself as the ‘good guy’ by ‘ripping’ into a few of us. Garry accuses us for example that we heavily advertise ourselves as a blog that teaches others how to make money online, while we don’t. Have a look at our header Garry, we’ve been “Milking the Internet since 2007“. We’re making money online with our blog, and we make no secret of it. We do sponsored reviews, like you. We sell private advertising, like you. We endorse affiliate products, like you. We’re open and honest about what we do and why we do it, unlike you.
You admit you misinterpreted our post in defense of Marc Galeazzi in your comments, thinking we were mocking Marc too, yet you choose not to lose face and leave the post unrevised, and add a twist in the comments so that your calling out of us looks justified within the context. Bravo, attack is the best defense.
Can you explain why, out of the goodness of your heart, you decided to either delete or make the post you published on the 17th, the day after the ‘controversial’ post, private? Is it because you noticed that you were getting some traffic, links and a bunch of comments to that controversial post? Because you wanted it to be the very top post on your front page? So you could get more comments and links, better stats? Or so that people could see what a nice guy you really are? Looking out for all of us MMO bloggers that want to learn how to make money online from you?
In our opinion, the post you made disappear to get the extra bit of exposure, was a hell of a lot more useful for any blogger that was looking to get educated by you. Something regarding Alexa’s new ranking system. You didn’t delete it quick enough, Google had already seen the page you published on the 17th.

This isn’t the only questionable thing you did. Remember when you requested a link exchange with us a few weeks ago, we were more than happy to do so. What a shame to see that you had removed our link from your blog, but ‘forgot’ to mention to us that you had decided to break the deal. Guess you figured we wouldn’t find out, and that you’d get a free permanent link from us this way. Not very nice. Cute how you managed to ‘forget’ to answer that question too when we left a comment on the post where you resorted to name calling by address to us as “assholes“.
We can live with Vic, he’s a rude, self-proclaimed asshole, but he tells it to our face, and he’s brutally honest. You on the other hand kept messaging us, requesting for votes and reviews on whatever social network via IM, pretending we’re friends, but then turn around and lash out at us , showing your true colors the minute you smelled opportunity to grab some extra exposure and traffic for your blog. Well congratulations Garry, you just earned yourself a few more back links with this post.
There, we’re done ranting and we’ve decided to close the comments on this post. We had our say and if any of you want to continue the debate/flame war, feel free to drop by Garry’s blog, or have a look a what we had to say about the issue over here. (Our comment there might still be in moderation.)

Somewhere in this mix the already forgotten Bryan Clark defends himself against Vic with I am not a scammer. As I said, I need to read the site a little more before I can pass judgment. JohnCow has written afollow-up postof sorts, where he has a go at Garry Conn and his post on the subject. Once again, Garry’s site is one I had not visited before today, but based on what he has written there, I have to say that if what he reports here is accurate, then I totally
