Hi gang, sorry for the late post today. We’ve been flying and just landed at our final destination –the beautiful city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands! We’ve struck gold with the Million Euro Wiki and decided we’re having an early retirement. Well not really actually, just a two week holiday, but it’s a start. So we just had a look at what MEW did since the time it was launched. We’re happy to report that so far we’ve made ~$3000,00 and his certainly exceeds any expectations we had! With the help of a few other bloggers out there, we managed to get some good exposure on the site and it seems we’re already going to have to draw a name to give away that first 16GB iPod touch since we sold over 25 pages. Just another 10 needed to pick a second winner for another iPod!
Now just to reply to a few of the comments we had in the first post we did on the MEW
Obviously not everyone was as excited about the project as others were and that’s normal. You just can’t please everyone! We however get the feeling that some of the negative comments were just posted for the sake of being negative. There was no real constructive feedback to be found. Sure, MEW is a copy of MDW and works the same. But is that a reason to bitch about it? Let’s just take a silly example.
After the invention of the Internal Combustion Engine it was easier to make a car that was small enough and reliable enough to be practicle. Just like with the steam cars, a lot of people were trying to come up with an internal combustion engine car at the same time. The two most important people were Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. Both of these men patented a car in Germany in 1886 but Karl Benz patented his first so most people say he invented the car.
So how many of you drive a Daimler Benz? We bet not even 10%. Most of you will drive different cars. All copies from the original that Daimler and Benz created. Does anyone give a damn about that? No.
You should look at the thousands of paid web directories on the Internet. They all do the same thing; provide people the opportunity to get more exposure for their products or services. The Million Euro Wiki does exactly that, but instead of having to pay a monthly fee for a single link to your page, or even having to outbid other to keep listed, MEW asks a mere one time $100 and provides you with an entire page that you can use as you see fit.
Then some other complaints about how we make $2500,00 per 25 pages sold and only give away an iPod worth $400,00 which would leave us with $2100,00. Seriously, besides the fact that we pay a good percentage of our money to affiliates, can we ask you what you’re doing to make yourself some money and what you’re giving away? We worked hard to get this set up and we’ve invested time and money in it. We’re constantly trying to improve the service and work with our members to make it something everyone will benefit from. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. But to try and break it down by insinuating things and just pointing out the flaws –we just don’t see the point.
So anyway, having said that, we’re gonna chill and have a nice cold milkshake to celebrate our vacation! We’ll be back tomorrow, same cow time, same cow channel!

I’d rather be Henry Ford than Karl Benz.
If it does what was intended, who can complain.
People just complain because they are mad they didn’t think of it first. Part of what the internet is all about is taking an idea that’s already out there and making it better. That’s exactly what you did.
I think this is an awesome idea. Now I just need to buy a page.
Enjoy your vacation! You deserve it.
I expanded on my previous comment and posted about it. Just click my name for a full explanation.
lol. I am glad you decided to single me out. I am flattered. I still stand behind me feeling that the wiki will only benefit you, the MOO. lol. Nonetheless, if it made you some money, I guess it worked because thats the point behind this whole interweb thingy: to make mooney.
enjoy your vacation and watch out for weirdos with black dog tattoos asking you to go somewhere with them.
Still no answer to my question on the original post:
“So what alternate means of entry into your iPod Touch contest not requiring a purchase are you offering as required by law?”
Timpani, it’s not a contest. It’s us giving something back to the wiki community.
Look costy to do and need capital , hhhmmmm
I’m starting to wonder why I shouldn’t try something like this. My host has wiki software. Ten bucks for a new domain and I’m in bussiness. Hmmmm.
Nah. it’s been done before.
Well done Mr Moo
Seems like you may have another hit on your hands, looks like you will be Moolinaires in no time.
I think it’s great that you have made $3000 from it in such a short space of time
I can’t wait to see what you Mad Moo’s come up with next
Cow, I’ll assume you are not a lawyer. Neither am I, but I’ll tell you this much: you are conducting a giveaway with an element of chance but requiring a purchase for entry. Pretty much everywhere in the U.S. and Canada and many other countries calls these “lotteries” and has laws against them. Just because you say it’s “us giving something back” doesn’t keep you from breaking the law.
Everyone, John Cow is demonstrating something I’ve tried to tell bloggers for a while now: don’t get into any business (even “casual” blogging) without knowing the laws that apply. You might think you’re on the right side of the law, but jumping into things without knowing what you’re doing can land you in some legal hot water.
I’ve been waiting for a somewhat prominent blogger to screw up like this so I can make an example of him or her. Hopefully now everyone will learn that they can’t just plunge into “professional” blogging without extensive study of the laws that apply to commerce and the internet.
Being the awesome person that I am, you can have another chance, John Cow. Provide an alternate means of entry not requiring purchase or serve as an example to future bloggers of the importance of taking the time to learn the laws that apply to your profession.
PS have a good Holiday
Timpani: What’s your point? Trying to ruin the fun for everyone we’d like to give an iPod? Trying to act grown-up and responsible? Or just trying to scam us out of an iPod?
If you’re trying to make examples out of “somewhat prominent bloggers”, you must have a pretty boring life.
We actually perceive you “giving us another chance” as a threat or blackmail. Surely there’s laws about that too, awesome person.
@ Timpani
Good luck with that, I shall watch with interest while you try to Sue Mr Moo and waste all you money.
Is he holding a contest ? I dont think so, or is he offering a free iPod to a member of his MEW website.
Have you checked to see which country’s laws apply to his website.
When you have a massive coalition of Record Labels around the world trying unsucessfully to have certain websites shut down for years, becuase their is no defined law governing the internet, I think you are going to have a job following this up.
Keep us posted I look forward to hearing how you get on
Sounds like Timpani needs to pull the stick out of his/her bum and find a better way to use their time.
Speaking of terminology, there IS a legal term that describes somebody who spends their time looking for people to threaten online: douchebag.
Geez, Timpani. What is your beef? You are not a lawyer, so you basically told everyone how much you DON’T know… How do you know JohnCow didn’t get legal advice on this? … Why are you acting the “I told you so” routine? Grow up and get your own blog.
“Troll! In the dungeons! Thought you ought to know.” — Professor Quirrel, from Harry Potter.
I see someone is trying to up the last Stupid Cow winner. Timpani seems to be in the lead right now.
LMAO!
You know, I always wanted to go to Sensation White. That’s in Amsterdam isn’t it Cow? Have you been?
Angel, haven’t been there. And yes, I know Tiesto, not my kind of music anymore
Just don’t eat too many of those funny cakes they have over there or you will end up with Mad Cow disease
Let the smack talk above me begin… lol
don’t sweat the haters. They are just upset because they didn’t think of the idea before you. I was too late to jump on the million dollar wiki, so I jumped on this one right away. Keep up the good work and ideas!
So…who’s going to start the million yen wiki?
@Timpani - you’re quoting US and Canadian law. I don’t believe Mr Cow resides in or is a citizen of these countries. In order for your argument to have any force whatsoever, you will need to quote the applicable law of the country covering Mr Cow.
I thought the cows lived on the Moon ?, I wonder what law applies there
I think I have given a fair and unbiased review of this with this post.

I’d like to know if the first 24 that signed up and don’t win the ipod will be in the 2nd drawing? Or is the first 25 in the first and 2nd in the second? So you get my point? Each drawing has a 1 in 25 chance or the 2nd has a 1 in 49 chance?
Can’t we all just get along?
John Cow….you are Moorific, keep up the great work!!
have a great holiday, i too will be in France and Amsterdam next month!
Browie: Each drawing has a 1 in 25 chance or the 2nd has a 1 in 49 chance etc. That way you’ll always have a shot at getting one.
Cow: OOooooo Just another reason to get in quick, because each new 25 your chances get significantly lower each time.
Yes.. not all us like our strategy bro..
I hate to leave an off subject comment but Google Announces The End of PageRank and introduces a new Digg like system to replace it. It’s yesterday’s news, Read all about it here:
http://revellian.com/2007/09/25/google-announces-pagerank/
I think it is a bad idea!
Don’t forget who told you!!!!!
Browie, this way is fairest since you’ll always have a chance of winning. Otherwise you’ll end up not winning in your batch of 25 and never have another shot at it again.
