Medical Transcriptionist – I Never Really Looked At It In The Right Light Before
| Share |
First of all I need to apologize to all my readers out there for my lack of posts. With the Beta of my Web2Mayhem, I have been swamped and thankfully that is going well and almost complete. So I will be back in full swing soon.
Now as for this post, it is first of all dedicated to Marie, for giving me the idea for it… so thanks Marie, I owe you a coffee or dinner or something.
What inspired me about this is it was a different angle on this whole internet/home business thing. Now if you’re like me you probably have seen ads in magazines for “Work at home and make money as a medical transcriptionist”. Well honestly I always thought of that as a scam, I thought it was some shady thing that really did not pay well… but boy was I wrong.
I want to share this with you to let you know I am quitting everything to become a fulltime medical transcriptionist. YES I am totally and 100% serious that I am NOT telling you the truth
OK seriously, this post will make sense in a moment… well I hope so… ok maybe not but do me a favor and pretend.
The whole thing here is first of all “THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX”!
I fall victim to this myself, I get stuck in my paradigm of what the steps are for something and I box myself in. I close my mind to things because of an assumption or rumor and miss out on things all the time. The simple fact is some of us are not looking for that million dollar payday (well I was and I want many more of them… bwahahaha) but some of us are only looking for enough to be able to live a different life.
So what this all comes down to is “WHAT IS YOUR REASON?”
Seriously, what is your reason… do you even have a clue?
Are you wanting to be rich, do you just want to earn a few hundred dollars a month to help make ends meet or do you want to be able to simply make enough to work from home so you can live a different life?
Don’t ask me why but the conversation I had with Marie was really a big reminder for me. She clearly knows what her reason is and she has a plan in place to achieve it… and the cool thing is she is almost there, already making decent money with it and things are getting better.
Now the bad news is (well it is not so much bad news as realistic news) it has taken her a couple years of working full time, raising kids and going to school to be able to achieve this but the whole point is, she set a goal, has a plan, knows what she is doing it for, realizes she has to sacrifice things and is almost there… she can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Now I realize some of you are doing this for nothing more than a hobby, you are having fun and like it… but some of you need to make your new venture work. So do yourself a favor and…
- Do NOT just do what everyone else is doing… THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX and figure out what YOU want to do.
- Know what you are doing this for.
- Make a plan and get her done!
Once again Marie thanks for the reminder

Thank you! You often write very interesting articles. You improved my mood.
Glad to help
Hi John,
I’ve been on the Internet with my own information and resource domain site since 1999, and just started my blog in 2004.
Both were started purely as a way to connect with others in the rather isolated fields of chair caning, wicker restoration and basketry.
Over the next few years, my reason for the website and blog changed a bit and I was then focusing on informing my CUSTOMERS about the nuances and complexities of chair caning and collecting antique wicker.
Now, however, after over 10 years for my website and 5 years for my blog, I NEED TO MAKE MONEY! Can’t keep up GIVING everything away, but at the same time, want to stay in my niche market. Help!

You know that is one of the hardest things to balance, how to give things away for free but still make money. The problem with free things is often times people that take free things.. only take free things. That’s why you need to give away only part of the solution… have them wanting more and tel them where to get it.
I couldn’t agree more! We musn’t be accustomed to the general way that things operate but must always be open minded and think creative! This, I believe is the true path to success!
I was wondering what was going on over here. I was reading your eBook and in it you clearly state to blog on a consistent basis.
Yes.. but it certainly is also a balance of ROI. This blog needs my personal attention and so i could not just 100% hire out blog posts or else it is not the same… and the training for the web 2 mayhem needs me to personally do it… since i am teaching exactly what i do… SOOOOOO… one of the two had to suffer and as a result it was this blog. But i sure did miss it
Not only this post is inspiring but also has a marketing lesson. Story – I felt like everyone does – but I found it was different. Shock and surprise nice post.
Say thanks to Marie to for inspiring it
Hi Jason,
What a terrific pep-talk post to start with, again.
Whatever may be the reason, but I agree with you on the three pointer pretty much.
“Great minds think alike” LOL!
But I have noticed that in-spite of being such a simple plan to work with a lot of people don’t make it because they can’t believe that it can be as it is & never take chance on life thinking of it to be a hard thing, you know. Why?
Chris you are so right… they either never get started cause they are scared OR they quit when things start to get discouraging. I remember when i was starting out how many times it looked like it might not happen, and i could have justified quitting but i wanted it too bad and was not going to quit until i did what i set out to. Marie actually said something similar in how she has had bumps in the road and felt at many times discouraged but those times pass… especially when you stay focused on your goal. I guess the way i look at it is life is much more exciting when you take risks and challenge your self to do things you never thought possible.
It comes down to a mind set of making yourself believe you are good enough, you will achieve something and it is worth it.

Great point that we need to know our why and our what. If you are lookiing to make some side money, the web is filled with opportunities. If you are looking to build a business, it takes more work, knowledge, and dedication.
Executing a simple plan well is much better than fumbling through a complex world beating plan.
I think the biggest drawback to Internet home business is that it often costs so little to start, people don’t take it seriously, and when they do somewhat decide to actually work, they are discouraged with the fact that there is always a cost of doing business…
john, does this job open for non US as well. I kept stumble on such opportunity but it seems it required phone line to be able to work properly.

I have no clue… i really know nothing about the profession, sorry.
The Internet is a source of tools for change.
marketing tools or tools to learn a new career,
Along a totally different path. Well done Marie!
Hi I really enjoyed your post. Many people fail to set clear goals on what they wish to achieve through internet marketing and so fail to make a plan of action on how to achive it. The secret to successful internet marketing is to decide what you want, work out a plan of action and keep focused on achieving the goal and TAKE ACTION. regards Aly
Having specific goals-both long term and short term-that you revisit on a regular basis is valuable for the home based business owner.
Have a plan on reaching those goals.
Take action!
Goal setting can be broken down into different categories such as spiritual, family, health, business etc.
Thanks for another great eye opener. Me, I don’t have to make a million dollars a year (though that would be nice…really, really nice). I just want to make enough to change my work-a-day life and the way I live it.
I was a transcriptionist for approx 20 yrs! So, I started L-O-N-G before blogging was what it is today. I loved it for the first few years, then it became something I was desperate to learn something to replace my $5k/mo (not typical) that I was earning.
I eventually just burned out, literally debilitating me both physically and mentally, and am now on social security disability. I can never go back to it.
I’ve done ebay for a couple of years, thought that was my internet connection, NOT! So, now I’m working on a blog – I found John Cow’s ebook, and I now know that I’ll be able to get off social security disability!
THANK YOU!
