Marketing Content and Content Marketing

For the most part, the instinctive thing that people do is the opposite of what will make them money. The Majority of internet marketers instinctively try to push their product on every one they meet. Sadly, it is the complete opposite of what they should be doing.

Instead of being a sales man, you need to become the Samaritan. Create value for others on a massive scale. People love value. They will adore you for it. And when they do, they will be ecstatic to buy your products.

Most people think of marketing and content as two separate things. Most people think: “I create my marketing to sell my content.” However, content is far better marketing than marketing.

Content provides the prospect with an opportunity to feel what is it like to learn from you, which is much more effective than any Pay Per Click ad. If you begin to look at your content as marketing it will help you make money much faster than if you were to think about it like the majority of internet marketers do.

There are 3 types of marketing content:

1. Free Line Content. This is the content you use in order to attract prospects, get subscribers and build your list. The content you give out for free in order to get the opt-in. Free reports, downloadable videos, audios, and software demos are the best example for this type of content.

2. Relationship Content. This is the content you use to build relationships and connect with your list. Email newsletters, e-courses, daily tips and anything you can send out daily during the first 7-10 days after the prospect has opted in.

3. Conversion Content. This is where you make the product offer to your prospects. Sales letters or any other types of offers you make to your prospects asking them to buy your product.

Amazing things happen when you start thinking of your content as marketing. Your mindset undergoes a shift. So now you don’t think about getting something – you think about giving something.

You stop thinking: “How do I take their money? How do I get them to spend money with me?” and start thinking: “How do I give my prospects the best value content and take advantage of my knowledge, so they can get some real world experience, so when I build a relationship with them and ask them if they are interested in buying some of my stuff they say “YES!” because they trust me?”

  1. I hear what you’re saying, but it can feel pretty scary to be giving away your knowledge for nothing and just sort of crossing your fingers.

  3. Very interesting Post, thank you so much.

I thought “Sell product I have”. But did not think: “Sell product that customer want”. And my “blog product” did not attract readers.

    That was wrong to me.

I like : “Give my best value to prospects”

Thank for your useful post again,

    Cheer,

How true – the websites I remember the most are those that had the greatest free content rather than those that tried to do the ‘hard sell’.

Plus if I think their free content is great, i’m more inclined to buy their paid product

Excellent points! Marketing is not about coercing unwitting dupes to give you their money. Marketing is about solving people’s problems.

Many business owners approach the exchange of value with the viewpoint of, “I’ve got a whole bunch of stuff that is absolutely worthless to me. I can’t buy groceries with it; I can’t pay the mortgage with it. I’ve got way too much of it and I need to get rid of it! What do I need to do to get rid of all this stuff and get people to give me more money than it’s worth to me?”

If you walked into a store and someone said that to you, would you want to buy from them? Not a chance! You’d go flying out the door to find someone who isn’t trying to rip you off.

When you look at it, though, from the perspective of your potential buyer’s needs, you see a far different picture. They have a pressing need that you have a solution for. It’s worth far more to them than it is to you. Focus on the value it has to them rather than on your eagerness to get rid of it and you’ll get far more than it’s worth to you while they feel they’re getting a real bargain.

There’s a lot more to it than just giving random stuff away and hoping you eventually make something out of your generosity. It’s a matter of infusing what you give them with as much value as you possibly can so they’re eager to do exchange their money for the value you offer.

Business transactions exist only when both sides feel they got more value than they’re giving up.

  20. Steve says:

Marketing content is much more important in terms of online marketing .. the content should clearly tell about the products/services so as the real customer could visit the website.

  21. Beautiful post. In real world , one has to leverage

between Free Line Content & Relationship Content on oneside and Conversion Content on the otherside.

And their lies businee success. Many markteers build content and relationship but fail to encash it to Money while others get conversion content but are unable to sustain it .

  22. Why people polish their content?

Content speak the language itself. But is it,how can you benefited by me (Content).

But people market their product without telling the truth behind their product that they are selling for money.

My question for all the blog readers/Bloggers:

How are you marketing your content?

  23. dom4biz says:

Hello Jason another well written and thought out post. Most forget that most of what we learn is passed on from those giving that knowledge away.

I have many times been accused by my peers that I give to much away. To me its all about the rule of giving to get. I know the bulk of what I know today is from what others passed on to me openly.

Great comments everyone, and Igor you are spot on with your comments

    thx/dom

Excellent piece. I’ve been intending to post some similar thoughts (as soon as my site redesign is done).

We’ve all been brainwashed to think the main purpose of a business is to “make a profit” when it is actually “to serve the community” (IF and ONLY IF it does that is it entitled to make a profit).

I like how you tied that in with content as marketing. You are wise far beyond your years young man.

  25. WOW!

I have never expected so much feedback. Thanks Guys.

It sure is a true pleasure watching people respond to your content like you guys do.

    Thanks, Jason, for this opportunity.

  26. John, Your posts are truly remarkable. I am struggling with the idea of creating a blog similar to your own, but at least I have a great mentor to model after. BTW I’m not a direct competitor and your site content truly does provide the type of marketing mind shift that most internet marketers need. Please keep it coming and I’ll be doing something with you soon.
