Very true John as there are so many food blogs that just talk as if they are food experts but they are really just talking about what THEY like to eat.

Many give recipes that consist of all canned products thrown together or give you recipes they haven't even tried. I must admit though that the food pictures are something I will have to work on a bit harder or get a professional to take them.

Thanks for this article though I really will take in some of your suggestions for my own blog.

So true. The recipes and dishes are the same but it's in the presentation that makes the different.

I happen to like Brussel sprouts! What was the name of that blog?
You should try them with brown sugar, maybe your Mom didn't tell you about how much better they would taste. Just sprinkle it on same as you do with Chilli.

I am in FOOD Department I could say ;-), trying to do my best!
My website focuses not only on recipes ( raw food recipes!) but on conscious eating, habits, dangers that come out of addictions.
What I have noticed is that if there is a sense of humor , the reader will come ( back).
But, it is true, that "food" blogs are not a gold bombs like "money-making" ones.
;-)
All the best for you!

Isn't that what it's all about - and why there are so many programs trying to teach copywriting? Because so many people are not really good at it. But even if you know you are not good at copywriting, if you stick to "yourself" and don't b*s*, you should get fairly decent content together.

If you just want to share recipes with a few friends that's fine. If you want to try and compete and make money against all the competition, you need to have quality content. You need to make sure you're providing people a reason to come back. I definitely recommend watching the analyics closely as well so you can see what content is popular and how people are finding your blog so you can replicate your success.

Couldn't agree more, brussel sprouts...I suppose it's possible, in theory to make them taste nice :-o But photos, photography, a picture says/tells a thousand words as they say and after 5 years selling on ebay I can tell you that it's hugely important to back well written, from the heart useful content up with really good crisp well lit, in context photos.

I think that just being real makes all the difference in the world. One thing that people like about my food blog is that I use everyday GENERIC ingredients...not some fancy high dollar, order from out of the country type of ingredients. The photos make a HUGE difference as well. It's great to incorporate humor, history, and true life stories when writing anything. It established a bond, a trust with your readers, no matter the niche.

So yes, quality and keeping it real is what counts.

Writing things from your heart is very important. Letting your readers know your thoughts and your feelings will help your readers understand what you're saying more.
