Learn How to Kill Your Competition - A Case Study of How We Beat up Garry Conn

Want to Learn How to Build a Business Not Just a Blog.. for FREE? CLICK HERE Now to Find Out How!

Over the past few days, there has been some smack thrown around by Garry Conn over at his blog, who was making some claims about the practices of this blog. Well, in the powerful and emotional and tear jerking words of the legendary leader and visionary Popey the Sailorman…

We’s taken all we’s could stand and we’s can’t stand no more!

Man, those words send shivers up our spine… so powerful… just so damn powerful… oh, ah.. uhm anyway back to what we were saying.

We thought it was time to put up or shut up and so we called out Garry to a competition, a competition that would have us each putting our practices into place and we would each build a blog focused on a specific non-IM niche. Then at the end of 30 days we would compare results… but this is where the problem lies.

What results to compare… revenue, traffic, selling the site and the price point… what???

You see, things are changing around here… for the better and the focus of this blog is to teach, inspire and well we would be lying if we did not say make money… but making money through true principals and practices and showing you how to truly do it for yourself. If you have been following along the Keyword lessons, you see that we are not sharing crap strategies here… this is stuff people pay money to get access to and took a lot of trial and error to figure out and best of all… makes us money :)

So, when someone was saying we are full of bull@#$t… it got our hackles up because we have worked damn hard to create what we have and we are willing to prove this anyway we can.

The Important Thing However is –> How can we do this so everyone benefits?

You see, Garry is a great guy, we actually have loads of respect for him and his blog. He does share good strategies and he is a smart guy… and it is not like we are out to destroy anyone… BUT we also do NOT want to be called things that WE are NOT.

So this competition needs to be first of all a benefit to the readers..YOU. We are going to show you everything, step by step that we do.. from start to finish so you can follow along and learn for yourself. After all, it is you the readers that make this blog what it is.

This is why we (Garry is too) are treating this very serious and making a real case study for you to follow along with and so the first thing you should do, right now, is enroll to be in the loop… this way you can be first in line to see every single communication on this and follow us step by step. To do that, simple enroll here…

We Also NEED Your Ideas and Input!

The next thing we need from you is ideas… we want your opinion and ideas as to how to best judge the competition. Keep in mind that the system needs to be proven. We are not at all worried about anyone cheating but the problem is the skeptics will start rumors and conspiracy theories and stuff like that.

So please, think about it and then post a comment below as to what you think would be the best way to handle this.

We have already stated that if the contest involves monetary value.. we are donating it all to World Vision… so keep that in mind when thinking up ideas.

I think it should be based on revenue… and maybe traffic as well. Maybe a first to reach $x and x traffic ranking wins.

Here are my quick thoughts:

1) The sites should be based on the same key words.

2) The sites should be built based on resources that are available to your readers.

3) At the end of the competition, all costs should be disclosed.

4) At the end of the competition, all revenue should be disclosed.

5) Winner is the one with the highest net.

You also need to select a judging panel of three independent people who can verify the results.

BTW, did Garry take your challenge?

Good luck!

Test the loyalty or your readers, by asking them to unsubscribe from your RSS feed then resubscribe again after two days. That’s all I could come up with

Ben, not sure what you mean.. is that just a comment on the three basic steps you recommend to use or how to decide on the contest… or are we missing something here  ?

I think subscriber numbers, daily visitor numbers AND monthly net income (so profits after all expenses are taken out) should all be factors in deciding the winner.

If you wanted to weight each of those factors equally, you could award 1 point to the winner of each category. So in essence the final result would be a score out of 3 (or more if you choose to include other categories). If you wanted to weight some factors more than others, you could assign 2 points to the winner of those categories and so on.

Providing the total number of “points” allocated is an odd number, you won’t end up with a draw either.

The final sale price of a blog seems to be a little bit too subjective (open to too many variables) in my mind to be a realistic indicator of blog success.

An independent. 3rd party taking and placing the orders on sitepoint.com might alleviate some of the skeptics out there.

Man, I think that the competition should be on who gets the most subscriber number in a month.

Since the point of both sites is too make $ online, I think most net earned plus value of the sale of the sites would make for good criteria. An independent party could verify the net amounts.

I’m certainly looking forward to the results.
