A lot of your blog’s visitors will eventually come from search engines as they are looking for stuff. As a good blog master you’ve made sure that all of the links that point back to your site will have the appropriate anchor text. How many of you have incoming links with terms like “Making Money Online“? A lot! The problem is that most of us probably have those links pointing directly to the main page and that slows your money making machine down!
Build it because they will come.
So John Doe is surfing on Google, looking to make a quick buck because he heard that everyone is getting rich online with this cool new thing his kids call blogging and he stumbles across our blog for example. What is he expecting? Us showing him how to make money online. What’s he getting? Whatever post is in the top spot on that day because we linked the anchor text directly at our main page instead of to the landing page which it should have been!
Like he’d care if we got screwed out of an iPhone or that our bike got stolen! He wants money! So what does he do? Leave our blog to never return again because we didn’t give him what he wanted. Money.

There’s only one first impression. Make it count.
Mr Doe is tired of being Mr Doe and would like to become Mr Dough. If you can show him proof of the earnings you’ve made on your landing page, half the work of persuading him to sign up for whatever program you’re advertising for is done. Obviously you’re gonna get a nice bonus by having him join Text Link Ads for example. $25 for every person you turn into a Mr Dough. Make sure you give your first time visitor enough of a push to sign up by providing details stats of your own success. Don’t overdo it though because there’s already plenty of affiliate SPAM sites out there. He’ll start earning some money too and remember your blog as the place that gave him some great advise. He will be coming back for more.
Create opportunities.
Your landing page should have a couple of screen shots of your earnings, the way the program works and perhaps an example of what it could look like for soon to be Mr Dough’s blog. People like to click pictures since you never know what’s behind one, link your referral code to every relevant image you have on your landing page. This way you provide enough opportunities to reel a new referral in without having to butcher your landing page with all sorts of text links like “Join Now!” and “Sign up here!”. Those usually put most people off since nobody likes to be told what to do.
Dissecting a live sample.
Puzzled what we’re talking about again? Here’s a great example of a landing page that sells. It’s not too pushy, provides plenty of proof and opportunities to sign up and shows you exactly how the whole thing works. No doubt this will bring in a nice number of sign ups which will make the blog a nice chunk of change. Enough anyway to be advertising with us! The blog has made sure that there’s plenty of links on the web that point directly to that landing page. Search engines will pick this up and slowly start sending targeted traffic her way. Because it’s not a crappy SPAM looking page, the number of sign ups will be significantly higher. Great job!
And for all you smart asses out there; Our landing page isn’t up to par yet because we’re waiting for the new theme to roll out.

That sure is a great example on cash quests.
Another tip is to analyse what posts are ranking higher on the SERPS and either amend them to be more of a landing page, or have a link to your landing page. Use this funnel to get your readers to your sales page.
I also like that on cash quests that all the images on that page go to her affiliate link.

It is indeed.

i have to control myself a lot for my blog to be on techie niche, not to go to make money online, the topic that most people read
Haha! Have you been clicking your own ads Mr Cow?? How else would you find that page??
You hit the nail on the head with the “Whatever post is in the top spot on that day” line. There’s no point running a promotion without wanting that traffic to take a specific action.
And how cool are you!! Writing a post that links to my landing page!! I guess I owe you some milk!
No, some other John told us where the links you bought on his page went to.
Must have been that evil blogger over JohnChow.info!
hmm seems very similiar to your blog, do you have a twin
Those ads of your are very clever Kumiko, even I clicked on them and I normally ignore adwords ads
This gives me a few ideas for one of my blogs. Thanks alot!
Heh, I came to the same conclusion a few weeks ago about the need to have a landing page for 1st time readers. Cash Quests, also, was the inspiration for this idea. I haven’t been able to sit down and make the actual page yet, but I did come up with a problem. If I start focusing my promotional links towards this landing page instead of my home page, wouldn’t that take away from my home page’s rankings?
Nice post. This gives me a lot of ideas I was missing out on.
Hey John Cow, just wanted to inform you that there is a security hole in ur blog. Its a way you can gain admin access via dir: http://www.johncow.com/wp-content/themes/mistylook-101/img/

Well you just posted here so feel free to spill the beans.
LOL
This is why I’m not fond of those that say “make money online” but really don’t tell you how every post. IDK if you’re an expert in a field you should have it devoted to that not random pictures of what you ate that night.
Hey Mr Moo
Cool post, I think I may have to try some of these ideas out.
thanks for a good post, some good info in it.
“Make Money With Joh Chow”. I’m really annoyed I even clicked on that.
This is especially important to consider when reworking your popular old posts that are still getting search engine traffic, so you can make them convert in terms of money or readers.
Link my referral code to all pictures!!!!! Thanks John, that is an incredible idea I just cannot believe I didn’t think of already. I’ve been blooging 6 months so I guess that could be the reason:)
A well informed post. Thanks
Great tip, since those people will leave your site if they do not find the info they want fast.
Thanks for the tips! I was thinking about landing page and the cow just come up with a good post..
Those are some good tips. This is something I’ll have to work on..
You have some very good points, but one I disagree with.
Phrases like “Join Now” and “sign up here” (call to action) are actually very effective if implemented correctly.
Actually, people DO like being told what to do. They want to know exactly what the next step is.
We don’t.
Thanks for the advice, another very informative post
