A lot of your blog’s visitors will eventually come from search engines as they are looking for stuff. As a good blog master you’ve made sure that all of the links that point back to your site will have the appropriate anchor text. How many of you have incoming links with terms like “Making Money Online“? A lot! The problem is that most of us probably have those links pointing directly to the main page and that slows your money making machine down!

Build it because they will come.

So John Doe is surfing on Google, looking to make a quick buck because he heard that everyone is getting rich online with this cool new thing his kids call blogging and he stumbles across our blog for example. What is he expecting? Us showing him how to make money online. What’s he getting? Whatever post is in the top spot on that day because we linked the anchor text directly at our main page instead of to the landing page which it should have been!
Like he’d care if we got screwed out of an iPhone or that our bike got stolen! He wants money! So what does he do? Leave our blog to never return again because we didn’t give him what he wanted. Money.

There’s only one first impression. Make it count.

Mr Doe is tired of being Mr Doe and would like to become Mr Dough. If you can show him proof of the earnings you’ve made on your landing page, half the work of persuading him to sign up for whatever program you’re advertising for is done. Obviously you’re gonna get a nice bonus by having him join Text Link Ads for example. $25 for every person you turn into a Mr Dough. Make sure you give your first time visitor enough of a push to sign up by providing details stats of your own success. Don’t overdo it though because there’s already plenty of affiliate SPAM sites out there. He’ll start earning some money too and remember your blog as the place that gave him some great advise. He will be coming back for more.

Create opportunities.

Your landing page should have a couple of screen shots of your earnings, the way the program works and perhaps an example of what it could look like for soon to be Mr Dough’s blog. People like to click pictures since you never know what’s behind one, link your referral code to every relevant image you have on your landing page. This way you provide enough opportunities to reel a new referral in without having to butcher your landing page with all sorts of text links like “Join Now!” and “Sign up here!”. Those usually put most people off since nobody likes to be told what to do.

Dissecting a live sample.

Puzzled what we’re talking about again? Here’s a great example of a landing page that sells. It’s not too pushy, provides plenty of proof and opportunities to sign up and shows you exactly how the whole thing works. No doubt this will bring in a nice number of sign ups which will make the blog a nice chunk of change. Enough anyway to be advertising with us! The blog has made sure that there’s plenty of links on the web that point directly to that landing page. Search engines will pick this up and slowly start sending targeted traffic her way. Because it’s not a crappy SPAM looking page, the number of sign ups will be significantly higher. Great job!

And for all you smart asses out there; Our landing page isn’t up to par yet because we’re waiting for the new theme to roll out.
