Just Write Good Content …

This is Jerry West again from the SEO Revolution. You know, this “Just Write Good Content” thing is one of the biggest lies in Online Business and Marketing world.

Yeah, that’s right, LIES.

You see, just writing content isn’t enough…you have to actually MARKET the content. What a concept, huh? Unfortunately what has happened in the IM space is “rockstars” like Matt Cutts from Google, who has great intentions in the market, but his suggestions are taken literally.

The result?

Content is written, really good content, and it is posted on the site or blog…and the owner then sits on their hands and just waits for links to just “appear” to the page and they start rolling around on a big pile of money.

That isn’t reality.

You see, old fashioned “grass roots marketing” is needed in order to get your message out when you sell a product, and there is no difference with content.

Content is your product. Market it effectively and be as aggressive as you need to be to get the results you want.

Next week I’ll cover some of my favorite techniques to market my content.

Yes, agreed. But it starts with GREAT CONTENT. It’s a tandem, you need both.

One without the other produces zero results.

    • Hyder says:

Wrong, it’s a matter of leveraging your content no matter how good or bad it is.

There are always people who will take your content {even if they need a little persuasion} – you just have to find them. That’s called marketing.

Its true, content is only good if people actually see and read it!

Definitely true. In fact, I’d go so far to argue that marketing is more important than the actual product! Look at McDonald’s and The Rich Jerk. Both offering incredibly crappy product but both are as popular as they can be!

This is so true. It’s the web 2.0 revolution. Good content used to be enough because people would just search for things through google or another search engine. Now people find you through forums, other blogs, or through digg/stumble upon.
Search engines are becoming less and less important in todays world. Still important, but less important. So when you say you need to market your blog you are completely right

    Great content is overrated.

Sometimes all you need is one famous friend to help promote you site. :p

Promotion might be 90%, content 10%, look at some of the top bloggers.

You can write the best article about business but if it’s boring and long, you get zero traffic.

Marketing the content is very tough….I don know, but its very difficult to promote a blog properly, if an individual is running it…Promotion will be done….But it will receive limited audiences….

  13. You need to focus on making sure its seo friendly, make sure to atleast get close on some important keywords. Use social networking to your advantage, and make sure you checked and double checked your post for typos.

Formatting above and beyond all else will help you the most when you surpass the 400 word mark. Generally around that point it has to be really really well written and formatted correctly in order to keep someones attention.

If it is not scannable, your not going to capture anyone. Take a less from the pro’s and from me you need to format!

  14. Definitely agree 100%. I have been in so many forums where people come in asking how to get traffic to their site and the answer is usually ‘write good content and it will come’.
Bah! You could write the best content in the world and still get no one to your site. Promotion is so important…but then again there is no good getting thousands of people to your site if you content is crap. A little of both goes a long way.
