Going To The Moo-vies

Have you ever noticed that whenever someone asks you what movies you’ve seen recently, or which one’s on TV right now, nine out of ten times you will answer the question, and add your personal opinion about the movie to it? Without the other person even asking, you’ll tell them if the movie is great, not bad or just a load of bull-crap. We are all born critics.
But a critic without an audience is like a cow without milk, nobody cares. Enter Criticker dot Com. Probably one of the coolest movie review sites we’ve come across in a long time, with a great community and loads of nifty user-interaction. Lets do a movie review site site review!

criticker_logo.jpgThe first impression we got when we clicked over was the clean look. With the column of movies to vote on, we were hooked in a matter of seconds, rating all the movies we had seen. Didn’t even have to register or anything! Obviously, after we did register, the site had a few more tricks up it’s sleeve to entertain us critics. All you need to do is give your rating to ten other movies and a little something called TCI kicks in. Yeah yeah, we’ll explain exactly what a TCI is!

TCI: The Taste Compatibility Index
The TCI is a measure of the similarity between two people’s taste in films. The lower the TCI, the greater the tendency to agree on which movies ruled and which sucked.

Once you’ve ranked a handful of movies at Criticker, you can generate TCIs with everyone in the community — both normal users and published critics. It’s better than just finding a few people with whom you generally agree — Criticker will show you the exact people whose tastes are the most similar to your own. It’s scientific (kind of)!

So that’s it. The TCI system will tell you who’s cool and who’s off their head when it comes to movie taste. If you’ve found a like minded movie buff or buffete, you could add them to your Kumpel list. (kumpel (koo·mpel) – German for ‘buddy’, ‘comrade’, ‘chum’). Never know, you might end up meeting your dreamdate, going to the movies together and live happily ever after! If not from your Kumpel list, you’ll surely make some new friends in the Criticker dot Com forums.

What else makes the whole system great is that it will index what you like and don’t like so that after a certain point it will open up the option to give you movie recommendations, based on ratings of others in your TCI area. This way you’ll be able to explore more movies of your taste and spend even more time as a couch potato! We love Criticker and we’ve replaced the old fashioned IMDB.Com bookmark with these guys. They’re so hip, they’ve even got their own movie blog full of funny stuff like crazy Jacky Chan stunts gone wrong and a real life Simpsons house!
