Free PR9 Links, Seriously.

We ran into a deal that sounded too good to be true on Sitepoint a few days ago. Some naughty person was selling information for an “exclusive” PR9 .EDU forum he had found online for “just” $50. We took the bait and figured we’d have a look at this deal.
Guess what? When we said too good to be true, we we’re right. Sure, the main URL might be a PR9 (although showing up as a PR8 in SEO for Firefox), but all the threads are way lower in PR, pretty much useless.
We kindly asked for a refund because we couldn’t and haven’t used this info, and the naughty seller, Mr NETGURU2525 keeps coming up with excuses NOT to pay us back our $50. Sigh, guess he must have really needed it, poor guy. We do feel a little sorry for him – having to resort to petty theft online to improve his undoubtedly miserable quality of life. Probably lost all his money gambling.
To make a long story short, after us having requested for a refund 3 times via PM on Sitepoint, Mr NETGURU2525 decided to start ignoring us, probably too busy enjoying semi-naked Take That clips, but he does have time to reply in the original sales thread to new buyers. However, after we left a comment, again asking for a refund, he all over sudden decided it was time to close the thread. What a chuamp!
Anyway, even though we didn’t find this link particular useful, we’re sure we can make a few of you happy with it. So without further ado, here’s a free pagerank 9 .EDU forum link for you guys. Enjoy!
*Update*
We figured we might as well save other people the trouble in the sales thread and went ahead to publish this post so they too could “benefit” from this fantastic offer – for free! Guess our naughty seller isn’t too happy and here’s what he had to say…looks like we’re going to court over $50!

So he admits in the first comment that he has already refunded two people, but then calls us a “True Idiot” because now he says we’re the only ones that asked for a refund?! And we’ve used Google to see if he’s been pulling stunts like this before – all over sudden we’ve been breaking data protection rules? Geewhiz, we’d better delete Google from our hard drives! Wonder what he’ll think of next, our poor, defamed soul.

I know a bit about business law. There is no case for defamation, I don’t know what he is talking about. Cyber law is much different than civil or criminal, but defamation refers to permanent damages suffered by a tarnish of image by something permanent. A user registered on a forum doesn’t have much of a reputation to spoil. He has the wrong intentional tort.

I don’t know about the seller at sitepoint, but the big dog running this on DP and shooting and threatening anyone who tries to sell it too, or who tries to spam the EDU forum intentionally or not, is doing it in a very straight and right way unfortunately.
He didn’t claim what was not… he just laid the facts down for you… he doesn’t own the forum, won’t guarantee your posts will stay, explained the diff in pageranks in both firefox and IE and let you make your choice.
Quite frankly, most of who have bought from him know deep down themselves that there is more than 85% chance it would be a fake PR, or that it would be useless when site owner or someone steps up and starts moderating the forum and removing the spams/unrelated posts or just add a “nofollow” tag.
Despite all of this, there was still that “maybe” voice in their heads and $50 is cheap and worth the risk … should it turn out to be a real PR9, they’ve hit the jackpot…, or at least just to satisfy their curiosity to know the site.
John Chow, you should have known better… you really thought it was 100% guaranteed? for $50? naaaah! Now most buyers are doing the same as you…asking for refunds and shooting down the seller for a deal they ALREADY KNOW was risky and was fully explained upfront by the seller.
Honestly, I personally think it is worth the price, even if it wasn’t a PR9.
Mystery’s last blog post..Blogging To The Bank 2.0 Review – Is It Scam Or Genuine?
Scams like these should be bought out to the open and show them for what they are. Cow did a great job of calling these guys out and hope others don’t get scammed by it.
There was another thread here on DP: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=697775
That presumably offers the same link! I personally think the moderators should have closed it, before letting the stupid low life scammer scam even more people! People were warned so many times in the thread that it’s all a scam but they all seem to be blinded by the fact that it’s a PR 9.
“Oh OMG OMG I can’t believe I have a PR 9 LIVE link!! woo”.. some people on that forum who are 18+ still act as 5 year olds. That guy should be banned infinitively. Perhaps if enough people report him, so I’d advise you to as he is a blatant low life scammer.
Nice post, but it’s only available to MIT students.
I found this blog from a thread at DP. the dude ripped a lot of people off there. Pretty sick.

Hi,
here is the facts:
The guy on DP had laid down the facts from the get go. You paid for these links, nobody forced you to. Paypal will not get your cash back. There is plenty of evidence there that he spoke the truth.
End of the story.
If the deal is only 50$ to get PR9, Google will die or replace its system with new one, it is a fake PR if it is pretty true
the site is not loading probably i’ll check it later

I gave it a try. But you can’t get live links either in your signature or body of a post. So…useless.
“The guy on DP had laid down the facts from the get go”
I presume “that guy” is you, given the paypal address in the DP thread? Anyway, how do you reconcile laying down the facts with the omission that the entire forum is secured via https; pages which don’t pass pagerank.
Pages such as – http://alum.mit.edu – do have PR9, but you certainly can’t put your link on there.

Makes you ill though I have to say that they do tell you most of the facts so anyone who purchases this kinda only has themselves to blame. If PR9s were on sale for $50, google would need an algo rewrite lol
Well the guy didn’t lie at all. He didn’t claim that he is selling PR9 link or have any control over that forum/website. He was clear from begining that he is selling the information about PR9 link. And it actually shows PR9 in google toolbar query for that forum, everywhere in the world.
Sorry for the loss Cow, but if you used Paypal, you should be able to get it back if you act quick
Anyways, thanks for supplying the link!

Right okay because ive been named and shamed, i thought it best to reply here with the basic truth of the matter. I bought this link myself through topseo on digital point and did sell the link on believing it to be a pr9 this is true. After I sold some on sitepoint (please note that I only sold on sitepoint and it was only twice or 3 times at most, I am NOT related to anyone selling on ebay at current or on apple forums and you can check that out if you will. I am not dogtrainingguides on DP).
When someone on the sitepoint thread mentioned that it wasnt a pr9 and not as promised I did shut the thread down but I didn’t (and still don’t) see why I should have to refund people when they read the description and the description was true as far as I saw as I myself had paid for the link!!!!
I ain’t a bad person and I ain’t a scammer. I did panic yes but out of principal didn’t refund as if you see something and the description does match what ur selling then refunds don’t seem logical. I’m not a massive SEO expert and i dunno what the heck a https thingy is? I only found out a small time ago.
Because this is causing me a lot of stress which’ll probably be music to your ears Mr. Cow, I will refund anyone who has purchased this on sitepoint (already told nova23 i would do this).
Regards
Haven’t received a refund yet.
I’ve sent a PM to you on sitepoint John, please read it and let me know your thoughts.Regards
From here I see the power of a famous blogger. The seller did decide to refund because of this blog post. That’s something!
As for the matter, I checked and the forum threats really got indexed and the old ones have some PR 4, 5, 6 but nowhere near PR9.
I don’t think people should spam this forum because it’s for very targeted group of audience as well as posters. If you do, you might have some unfavorable side effect later on.
I believe in natural link building. I hope people do it that way too.
Happy link building!
