Today a paid review on Webappers.com, a site that provides “Only the Best and Free Resources for Web Application Developers“. Ray Cheung, a freelancer who’s been doing website design and web applications development for over 10 years, decided it was time to share the massive amount of free resources he comes across. Anyone that’s looking for high quality work should make this one of their first stops. Ray’s commited to his claim to have new free material for everyone each day and so far he’s made good on that promise.

How well are these guys doing?

An indicator that Ray is indeed delivering nothing but the best might be the number of RSS subscribers that’s already over 2000 within just 3 months(!) and his Alexa ranks that sits in the top 50k. And of course the fact that he was able to afford an expensive review from ourselves  By the looks of it, Webappers dot Com is already making Ray a steady revenue of ~$500 per month with his private ad sales. Not bad at all for a young blog that offers free resources! They should really consider to start offering text link ads in the RSS feeds, surely that’d boost the earnings with that massive amount of subscribers.

Free as in free beer!

For experienced designers and developers, the common open source licenses are probably know by heart and Webappers dot Com offers a great category system where the freebies are filed under their respective licenses (e.g BSD License, Creative Commons, GPL License, LGPL License, License Free and MIT License). This is very usefull and saves you a lot of time if you’re restricted to a certain licensing scheme for your site or web app. If you don’t give a toss about licenses, you can always browse through the HR (human readable) categories for cool icons, sexy background patterns and smashing fonts for example. There’s too many to list here so go have a look for yourself. Surely you’ll find something nifty to add to you own site or blog!

Practice what you preach.

Showcasing all the finest design highlights on the Net, Ray is making sure for a pleasant user experience to all that visit his blog. No ad cluttering, no unreadable fonts and no bullshit. Clear white background with plenty of space everywhere. Easy navigation to take you where you want to go with the click of a button. There’s a great number of screenshots in his articles so you’ll know what Ray is talking about and we’re getting the feeling that Ray actually knows what he’s talking about!

Our conclusion.

There’s really nothing we could find personally to bitch about, Webappers dot Com is truely a great resource site for the best webdesign and web application freebies! If we’d do free reviews, this blog would surely be on our list!
Well worth sharing with your friends on Del.icio.us to show what great taste you’ve got. We’ve subscribed to the feed because getting a daily fresh dose of inspiration for free is great! No RSS? No problem, you can get their updates via email too. It will be interesting to see if Ray manages to crack the 5000 subscribers milestone by the end of the year!

Thank you for the excellent review. I am really surprised with the growth of WebAppers as well. It is really unexpected. I think if we do something that can help people, we will eventually success.

You are right, I need to start offering text link ads in the RSS feeds. ;)

Thanks again for the review!

They have a nice formula: very clear niche, useful content, clever promotion.

You can’t go wrong with that!
