These real-life events can be hard to take and you exit with a big lump in your throat. My wife is always watching or reading about stories such as the woman
above and gets upset with me for not looking at it. I always say I have enough problems on my own but there is a part of me can't get involved emotionally.
I have medical problems of my own and try to stay positive although I know that people have problems a hundred fold worse than I do.
But to Blog about deep personal affairs is unchartered territory for me and wonder if people really want to hear about it. Now I just skim the surface with a few incidents in my life but to get deeper is something I would have to
consider.

Gords last blog post..The Love and Hate Of Credit Cards

I HATE Dr. Phil, but it is one hour on TV. I can easily waste 10 HOURS reading blogs like the ones you mentioned. It comes down to time management, lol. If you want to watch a self absorbed pompous know it all guy, you watch Dr Phil. You want to read about real people and real life from real people you look for quality blogs.

I liked your sensitivity to bloggers who blog from the heart, not (only) to make money but to express their feelings of angst, ennui, betrayal… or simply day-by-day unique experiences that the whole world should be aware of. Then, the money that comes is more of like icing on the cake than the cake itself.

@Gord but do you think opening yourself up can give the reader a real personal relationship with you, a real trusting relationship. On the other hand it could probably open up other things too

Your right, blogging is where you express yourself and build trust with readers.
On the flip side of the coin you need to watch were you tread. A lady recently emailed me about getting a relationship going after reading my articles. Now hold on there Miss....I'm a married man. It may sound funny but two people I know have ruined marriages over online relationships.

I personally think Dr. Phil is a joke. He tells the people the exact same thing I'm yelling at the TV. He should named be Dr. Obvious! A guy is wondering why him and his family are living with his parents in their Trailer out back. His wife is unhappy and wanting to leave, but he can't get out of the chair. He is too busy watching Nascar and drinking beer. Dr. Phil's answer: "GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GET A JOB! SAVE UP SOME MONEY, GET YOUR OWN PLACE AND SUPPORT YOUR FAMILY"... Who else could tell is so real? Probably everyone watching his show.

Well, being from Texas I'd like to be the first to say - we don't talk like that! Only he does and I don't appreciate him making us look like freaks, George W. has done enough of that, thank you very much. I know I sound hick like he does, but not everyone does - I get made fun of by other Texans! Regardless, therapy can only go so far, most of the healing process is just that - a process, that you have to go through to get to the other side. Psychiatrists are usually just a paid ear to listen and not judge.

You don't sound like a woman, you sound like someone with compassion. That is indeed a very sad story - I don't know if I could bare my heart like that, I'm not sure I would blog for therapy, I think I'd just call up my best friend as I have in the past and let her "talk me off the ledge" but I can trust her not to be hateful or short or mean to me - which you can't always be sure of when you blog.

That is a very sad story and leaves me kind of bewildered after reading about it. I don't know if I could use blogging as therapy but I'm sure someone who loves it could. Very sad story.

Honestly, is blogging about your problems any different than spending $100/hour to talk it over with a shrink? Personally, I think that blogging about your troubles is much more therapeutic. It's often difficult to talk to someone in person about your problems, but typing your thoughts into a computer is much easier. I commend the woman mentioned above for having the courage to share her experience on her blog.

Now...someone talk about football or something manly before we have our man licenses revoked.

I was just talking about this today with my partner. I was reading a newspaper article about a lady who was date raped at 16 and she talked about years of keeping it under wraps. She said that it was not until she started talking with others that she realized that she was not the only one.

If only she had blogging as a youngster she may have been able to confidentially find others that had talked about similar issues to her and help start the healing process much earlier on.

It is DEFINITELY therapeutic (or at least it can be if you choose to blog about those things). Not only does it get things expressed and out of your system but you get some great support from blog readers AND in reading other people's experiences you realise you're not the only one that can feel that way.

I LOVE it. I have a personal blog for that stuff and a "blogging" blog for other stuff. It works well for me. :)

Never quite understood the fascination with blogging. I end up on blogs from Google searches all the time, but rarely stay long enough to even read a full entry. Guess I got enough of peoples' opinions from the OpenDiary and Livejournal days.

@Rob we agree, sometimes it is a great release to just get express something

@Gord but do you think opening yourself up can give the reader a real personal relationship with you, a real trusting relationship. On the other hand it could probably open up other things too

Well, personally I am not a big fan of Doctor Phil, but I see what you are going at. I know lots of people write to show their emotions and use it as a form of therapy, and after all isn't that what blogging is? I don't know about everyone else here but I love to write. The fact that people actually care about what I say gives me this feeling like none other. I believe that it is possible for someone to blog their way to happiness, do you?
