Dominating Video? But Does Video Marketing Actually Work… You May Be Surprised!

I LOVE using SEO and free traffic sources to rake in loads of revenue. Whether it be my own product or an affiliate offer… the fact is I don’t just teach about doing this, I use it and love doing so!

Over the past couple of days I have been private messaged and emailed from a few people, who seem to want me to be able to predict the future for them and make everything OK.

They ask questions like…

“If i do this, how much money can I make?”

“What do I have to do to make this much $$$ in 60 days?”

…and the list goes on and on and on.

I have bad news… NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE anything like that!

Now before I sound too hypocritical… yes there are things that can be “Guaranteed”… but that does NOT mean that they work for absolutely everyone.

You need to understand that I have busted my ass off to create a business that earns 7+ figures a year… nothing “just happened”. The affiliate marketing side of my business for example, is not made up of me making one site and suddenly earning $14000 a month (like a recent product claimed).

What you need to understand is it is all about testing, tracking and tweaking… and doing this over and over again. Not just building one site and BANG you are rich.

My personal affiliate marketing system is made up of making a certain number of new sites every month and then after a couple of months I look to see which ones have taken off and I focus consistent promotion and new content on them.

The thing is NO ONE can be 100% certain that any niche will make them money… you need to test and try lots of different things.

As a real life example (I am revealing this exact test, showing the domains and everything in the Web2Mayhem next week), I built 5 small niche blogs that are focused on amazon products. I built these blogs following a super easy strategy that was focused on what someone just starting out could realistically do. These are 5 related niches to each other but are each a tight niche blog that only contains a couple pieces of unique content and then is added into my auto content system (which web2mayhem members get) and after 2 months now, I have identified three of the five that are doing very well traffic wise and are converting and this month will net about $400.

The two that are not doing well I am going to give another month and if nothing, I will sell them… which will more then pay for the cost of them.

The point here is if I just built one or two of them, I might have built only the two that are making no money and from the initial research… they looked just as good as the winners did. I also made sure to build them correct, use great content and promote them.

You see the only guarantee is the effort… you have to do something to achieve results.

If you ever saw chariots of fire, a quote that really gets to me is when the character Sybil Gordon says to Harold…

“If you don’t run, you can’t win.”

You see Harold was pouting because he got beaten badly in his last race and as a result refused to race anymore because if he could not win he did not want to race.

Well it goes the same with trying to make money online, you do not quit just because you did not succeed on a single attempt. You have to keep racing!

I have heard so many people cry a river saying “this or that does not work” only to find out they never really tried or tried some short cut and never put any real effort into it.

It is NOT…

the tools
the training
the niche
the… enter your own reason here

It IS the work. You have to use the tools, implement the training, test different niches and see what works and then keep doing what works.

If You Want To Make Money Online Then You Cant Just Follow

One thing I am very adamant about is that no matter what system or strategy you are using to try and generate revenue; if you do not make it “Yours” it is never going to effectively achieve the results you are after.

For example, in the Web2Mayhem, I provide a very detailed three phase traffic system that walks members from start to finish on not only how to use the tools but more important then that is how to GENERATE TRAFFIC.

The training is made up of detailed checklists, videos and flowcharts and is designed with one purpose in mind… to get more traffic!

There is a HUGE risk though… and this is why I hate making such detailed strategies sometimes.

The person becomes a robot and does not think for him or herself.

No matter what, the most important thing you have to do, no matter the strategy that you are following, you have to make it your plan.

What Does That Mean?

First of all let me say that this does not just relate to my Web2Mayhem training, but it relates to any system or membership (even ebook) that you purchase with hopes of success. You need to figure out how to make the system fit in with what you are currently doing and figure out how to make it work for you.

That might sound super obvious… but it is not… NOT AT ALL.

What works for me is by no means what works best for you. We each have different strengths and ways of thinking and as a result what might flow and seem logical to one person, might be not be optimal for another.

You need to own what it is you are doing, you want to ensure you don’t simply stop what you are currently doing and you need to tweak and test and do what works for you.

A huge thing I see a lot of people doing is they start trying some seo strategy and then a mailing comes out for a new cpa course and they stop what they were doing and start trying that, then a new social media course comes out and they stop again and start over with that… and the cycle continues.

As made famous in the 80′s… STOP THE INSANITY

The fact is lots of money can be made with SEO, PPC, PPV, Media Buys, Social Media and more… Yes they ALL work. But anyone I know that is doing really well did not focus on all those, they picked one… got good and profitable with it and are expanding to another. In fact most of them stick with one or two only, cause they are good at it and can manage it.

Stop following butterflies and looking for the next best thing. The diamonds are in your backyard now (read Acres of Diamonds. its a great book) and you need to just stop, pick one thing to focus on, follow the training and advice, figure out how it works and then tweak it to work for you… then follow the money. What I mean is see what is making you money and then improve on it. Then once you have a system and can maybe hire people to do things for you, and then move on to try something new.

If you have not gotten good at any one thing, have not been able to make your own plan that works for you… then chances are I can bet you are spending way more money then you are earning.

Major News – The Cow is Heading Out to Pasture

In spring of 2008 I purchased Johncow from Bob Jones (hard to believe its been over two years now) and over the past two years I have had LOADS of fun…. but sadly, all good things come to an end eventually.

Now before anyone starts to make an assumption… no this is not the end of my blogging career… in fact it is probably better labeled as the rebirth.

You see Johncow was originally created back in 2007 as a twist on the infamous JohnCHOW.com and when it came up for sale I thought it would be a great opportunity to get into the blogging side of this business.

The time has come however that Johncow is not relevant to my business direction anymore.

When I took over johncow, there was only 1200 RSS subscribers, now there are over 30 000. We have created an ebook, lots of blogging series and competitions, been featured in a bunch of ebooks and on blogs and have had loads of fun… but its time for a change.

It has become discouraging when I bust my ass off to provide good content and I read a comment from someone that says this blog is just a mockery of someone else, that it is riding on the shirt tales of someone else or when people call me John… my name is Jason

In fact I was talking with Carl over at http://www.carlocab.com/ (aka the kidblogger) and he agreed with me, its time for a change.

So over the next month we will be transitioning Johncow.com to a new domain and a new look and a new goal… and I am going to be giving away some amazing stuff.

Kill’Em with Kindness… Well Not This Time

OK, if there is one rule of thumb you should follow with customer support it is the you want to “Kill’Em with Kindness”

What this means is be nice and even when you want to scream… still, just be nice.

I however do not practice that in all circumstances… and the reason is because some people are just ignorant… and so I like to be ignorant back.

Oh and YES.. I have a lesson in this.

First of all, I am not asking whether I am right or wrong here… I don’t care. This person pissed me off and well… I will explain how it is stupid to act that way.

So, I was cleaning out my emails and found a few that I missed. Because of the launch of the Web2Mayhem I got swamped with emails. Anyway one that I missed was this one…

OK, now I want to stop before I move on. First of all the person said they would never order from me, so in the first place I knew I was wasting my time with this person because I am in this to make money (oh big surprise there) and this person admitted they would never buy anything from me… but I sent the link anyway but yes the link had an error in it… but hey I am a human.

So the next email she decides to add even more ignorance by saying “This does not instill any more confidence in your site for me.”

OK now why does that bother me so much?

Well for the simple reason is that people like that frustrate the hell out of me. People that sit there and immediately judge and criticize people or products without having a clue are in my opinion a waste of everyone’s energy and in my honest opinion… DO NOT WASTE A MINUTE OF YOUR DAY ON THEM!

I have been doing this full time online for a while now and every so often I get someone who is just plain and simply an asshole and it used to get under my skin a lot. I would do everything I could to try and make that person happy… but you know what… I have never made a single one of them happy. And you know what else… NOT ONE OF THEM is successful today that I know of…. NOT ONE!

OK… so I have more to this… this is where it got fun for me.

SIDE NOTE: I do not send the johncow contact form to my support team because I want to personally handle them and my support team is already busy enough… so that is why this email was missed, but hey even in support systems these get missed occasionally.

OK, so after the second email reply I was just going to delete it… after all she said she was never going to buy from me and sorry but I am not in this for charity. So I decided to be ignorant back… cause sometimes it is just fun.

So this was my reply…

Re: No download Lol, well people like you are usually those that never amount to success anyway and are huge support burdens who feel the world owes them everything. Personally I see the energy you waste on comments like that a joke cause they offer nothing positive to this world and act like you never make a mistake. The link I sent you was missing a w and it is the Christmas season so support is slow… But hey good luck with your attitude in the New Year.. Hope it makes you feel like a better person anyway.

Did I think this would cause a discussion… 100% yes and I did it on purpose cause with these kind of people it is funny… and as you keep reading you will see why.

Actually after today’s already scheduled post I had planned, don’t worry I was going to post about your email anyway, cause I want to show people how people that are negative expect the world to fall at their feet and treat people with no respect and as a result get no respect back.

You see I have over 200 000 double opt in subscribers that trust me and many who have been my paying customers (some paying $300 a month for me for over 4 years now). I have worked my ass off helping people that has helped me to have a healthy 7 figure a year income. So fall by the way side… Ya ok.. Sorry I am already successful and established because I work my ass off to help people.. You might want to read comments on the johncow.com blog before you make an ass of yourself.

Not trying to be conceded but yes you were immediately accusing me of being something I wasn’t and if you think you were not rude in your email… Well then maybe that is not what you consider rude but I think it was ignorant and I can guarantee you are not making a healthy living online with that attitude.

Anyway, I am sure some of you will disagree with this and how I handled it… but I don’t care lol… like I said 99% of complainers don’t get handled like this but she got me on the right day.

Now I also loved how she said she is passing this around to her followers. Help me understand how that is a bad thing… I laugh whenever anyone says they are going to slam me in a forum or somewhere. Give me a break, my paying customers know I work my ass off for them and I could care less about people bitching in forums and to their “followers”… in fact I like it when people like this do that… it makes me smile.

Oh and I am not at the best part yet.

Feeling a little bored I decided to send her my phone number and I encouraged her to call so I could record the conversation… I really wanted too… so she could hear herself. Well… there was kind of sarcasm in it too… but this was the response I got to that…

See, now had you replied to my first email in this manner we would not have an issue. Instead you sent me ZERO text, no “sorry about that”, no “we’re a little short on tech help”, nothing but a link… that did not work. This is the down fall of your customer service. You then followed with nasty remarks (I was more abrupt in my second response, but let’s face it I appeared to be talking to a bot).

Chris… did you forget your ignorant initial comment about “never buying from me” cause a download did not work… that was your first and only email to me. This download is for a free product that I have gotten hundreds of thank you’s and testimonials for and people say all the time I should charge for… but oh ya, Chris it is a scam (cause you say so), I am giving you exceptional value for your email.. what a bad scam that is.

OK, so I have not received a link to anything from her yet cause I can’t wait to read it… but anyway…

WHAT THE HECK IS THE LESSON HERE

1. Do not waste your time on people like this… if someone tells you that they are never going to buy from you… why waste energy on them… unless you can get something out of it like a worthwhile post to your worthwhile blog

2. Do not do what I did… unless you can benefit from it. I am not wasting time here cause I am getting my post out of this and I am having fun… I love this kind of stuff for my blog posts.

3. Always try to be nice to the product owner at first. I have created three of my most profitable relationships in my business that have helped me create several million dollars in revenue because of the respect and help I gave a few product owners. I was wanting a service from them… I did not take the attitude I am your customer so I can treat you like shit and you better bend over backwards for me…

NO WAY

… instead I looked at it like, what can I do to help both of us… how can we make this product better so we both benefit.

4. Last but not least… have fun with life. Enjoy it… this is the only one you have and if you can either be a miserable SOB or happy… I prefer to be happy

Liar Liar, Pants on Fire

We just couldn’t help ourselves, after seeing how Mr NETGURU2525 (aka NETGURU on Digital point) is trying to lie his way out of the scam he pulled, by selling us a useless PR9 link, we just had to post this follow-up. The damage control isn’t working, in fact, we think he’s just getting himself deeper and deeper into the cow shit.

One of the threads on DP is about how people got scammed by him, and because he’s got a slightly different handle on there, he thinks he can lie his way out of this one. Unfortunately for him, we found more evidence, showing this liar for what he really is.

Have a look at the following screenshot, in particular the links in the thief’s signature. When we paid for the crap link via paypal, we paid to a certain admin@double-down.co.uk. So surfing to http://www.double-down.co.uk, we found this site:

Three of the links in the liar’s signature are exactly the same as on the double-down.co.uk website. Tsk Tsk, guess he thought everyone was as stupid as him and that nobody would see the connection.

And what an astonishing coincidence that Google knows you live in Edinburgh, UK. Same location as what the DP forum screen shots say about yourself!

Then someone finds a link on eBay, where Mr NETGURU happily continues to scam people out of their money – after all, he’s been outed on the Digital Point and Sitepoint forums, it was time for him to find new sources of trusting people to scam. Even though he “promised” to sell just a handfull of links on the forums, to prevent the PR9 forum from getting spammed and thus rendering it’s value wortless, he’s now put 20 for sale on eBay. And it looks like he’s already stole money from 4 new people.

Yes NETGURU, you do make us sick. And dear readers, feel free to stumble, Digg, Reddit, whatever this post, so we can warn more people about this scammer’s work.

*Update* Here’s the ultimate confession, he’s admitting to knowing that the link he sold was crap. Even trying to pretend to be helpful by warning others that the link was a fake!

Free PR9 Links, Seriously.

We ran into a deal that sounded too good to be true on Sitepoint a few days ago. Some naughty person was selling information for an “exclusive” PR9 .EDU forum he had found online for “just” $50. We took the bait and figured we’d have a look at this deal.
Guess what? When we said too good to be true, we we’re right. Sure, the main URL might be a PR9 (although showing up as a PR8 in SEO for Firefox), but all the threads are way lower in PR, pretty much useless.

We kindly asked for a refund because we couldn’t and haven’t used this info, and the naughty seller, Mr NETGURU2525 keeps coming up with excuses NOT to pay us back our $50. Sigh, guess he must have really needed it, poor guy. We do feel a little sorry for him – having to resort to petty theft online to improve his undoubtedly miserable quality of life. Probably lost all his money gambling.

To make a long story short, after us having requested for a refund 3 times via PM on Sitepoint, Mr NETGURU2525 decided to start ignoring us, probably too busy enjoying semi-naked Take That clips, but he does have time to reply in the original sales thread to new buyers. However, after we left a comment, again asking for a refund, he all over sudden decided it was time to close the thread. What a chuamp!

Anyway, even though we didn’t find this link particular useful, we’re sure we can make a few of you happy with it. So without further ado, here’s a free pagerank 9 .EDU forum link for you guys. Enjoy!

We figured we might as well save other people the trouble in the sales thread and went ahead to publish this post so they too could “benefit” from this fantastic offer – for free! Guess our naughty seller isn’t too happy and here’s what he had to say…looks like we’re going to court over $50!

So he admits in the first comment that he has already refunded two people, but then calls us a “True Idiot” because now he says we’re the only ones that asked for a refund?! And we’ve used Google to see if he’s been pulling stunts like this before – all over sudden we’ve been breaking data protection rules? Geewhiz, we’d better delete Google from our hard drives! Wonder what he’ll think of next, our poor, defamed soul.

We’re baaaaaaack! Hi kids, did you miss us? Its been nearly a month and we can’t wait to get started again. We’ve really enjoyed our stay down under in Western Australia, with temperatures up to 42 degrees Celsius, some great parties and weddings, excellent fast food and tons of cold beers. We arrived back in cold Dublin yesterday after traveling for over 32 hours and got a fright when we saw over 4000 emails in our inboxes…looks like we’ve got some catching up to do. Good thing we just had a 16 hour powernap, we’ll be needing some extra energy to work away the backlog.

We’d like to thank all those that stepped up and registered with our blog to contribute with some excellent guest posts! You’ve kept the farm running and it seems we’ve gained over 200 new RSS subscribers too. We’ve just closed the guestpost registration, but there are still about 15 posts in draft which we will publish during the next few weeks. Hope that the published posts had a positive traffic effect on the guest posters blogs. Thanks again, we really appreciate your efforts!

Because we had extremely limited Internet access, business has obviously slowed down a bit. We found a few emails of angry advertisers that had ordered ad spots and felt they were waiting too long to get approved by us. Some even mailed us 6 times in one day, getting nastier by the email. “I’ve just paid for the adspot 2 hours ago and it’s still not live! I’ve requested a refund via PayPal and am very disappointed that you didn’t reply to my first three emails!” Errr…well, there’s really not much we can say about that. We apologize for enjoying our time off and not franticly checking our emails every 30 minutes.

Also, if someone has emailed us with an important request of whatever, make sure you mail us again, just to make sure we didn’t accidentally delete your message when going through the pile of mails.

We’re Packing Up

Just have a few minutes to cram this post in before time’s up, so we’ll cut to the chase. We’re tired, worn out after the evil entrecard hordes mobbed and clobbered our hides. Who would have known we’d get such an ass-whooping just for dropping a widget! Its time to pack our bags and leave. Its time for a holiday!

We’ve got tickets to go visit the beautiful pastures down ~~udder~~ under, in the land of the Problogger. With limited Internet access, a nearly empty drafts section and a lazy attitude, we won’t be around much and you boys and girls will be asked to entertain yourselves for a little while. We’ve done it before and we’re doing it again. As of now anyone can register on the blog and become a guest poster. You won’t be able to actually publish a post – or do much else besides writing one – but we will be checking the drafts section from time to time to accept posts we like.

We’ll accept anything that’s related to Internet marketing, making money online, web 2.0, web design, blogging… you get the idea. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are, how small or big your blog is – all we want is a post that’s been spellchecked, consists of a few paragraphs, preferably of ~500 words, SFW (suitable for work) images and, in English. If you think you can do all that, your post will most likely be published during our absence. Obviously you’re free to linkback to yourself, but try not to make it too spammy. 1-2 links should be enough.

We’re expecting to return in even better form next month, after replenishing our vitamin D levels with some sun from Down Under, something we don’t get too much of here in Ireland. It’d be nice to see the RSS subscribers doubled when we get back, so lets see how well you all can manage the farm while the cows are out.

By the way, we’re currently featured in the DailyBlogTips Bloggers Face-Off. Our ‘opponent’ is Dave Peralty, who besides being the author of XFEP.com, is also the marketing director for SplashPress Media, owner of Performancing. Seems he’s up on the poll after he posted about it too! It makes for an interesting read, especially since we seem to have roughly the same ideas about things. Dave is just better at being serious than us. Oh, and we removed the top ad bar because after this week’s testrun, we’ve had nothing but complaints about it. Some people even reported errors.

The Last Drop For Entrecard

We’ve had the entrecard (EC) widget on our blog for a while now and never really actively participated in their booming community. If you’re familiar with their forums, you’ll know there’s a select group of EC power-users. They seem to wake up, and go to bed with nothing but EC on their mind. Their blog’s are filled with post after post on how to increase your EC traffic, how to optimize it for your blog, how to network with the community,Top droppers MeMes, etc etc. That’s all great, but we think some are getting a little carried away with it all, unknowingly destroying the system.

Here’s the thing: The whole purpose behind EC is to get noticed in the blogosphere because your 125×125 ad gets displayed on other blogs that have signed up with EC. Obviously if your card is featured on a huge blog like Problogger (who gets sponsored by EC) or JohnChow, you’re bound get get a nice bump in traffic for those 24 hours. Currently the cost for these two blogs is 330 and 260. So why on earth would someone waste over 400 credits to get featured on a blog that has 21 RSS subscribers? You wouldn’t if you have your head screwed on the right way!

We’re not saying your blog is bad or crap, we’re just saying there’s no justification for such a high price, having compared the stats with the other blogs. It’s like us starting to ask $900 for a review, while you can go and get one for half that amount on JohnChow.com. We’d set ourselves up the bomb!

Now this is where the problem lies. The EC powerusers are so keen on getting becoming popular within the ranks of the community, that they are working hard in chain dropping their cards on all EC blogs each day, just to accumulate more credits and inflating their own advertising prices. Emails keep getting send around, asking for drops, reccomendations and whatever else it is that will get you popular on the categories pages.
Its really not doing any good for anyone. The blogs that get their cards dropped on are experiencing an increase in bounce rates. The bloggers that stops dropping quickly vanish into thin air. The bloggers that keep dropping, is happily inflating their own advertising cost. And for what? Just to get featured in the top 3 on their respective categories?

Bouncerates through the roof.

Unfortunately the current system “Effort=Reward” has become unusable since it has been encouraging this form of ‘gaming the system’ and the end result causes a distorted view of how popular a blog really is on the outside world. If you think you’re paying 400 credits to get featured on a popular blog, therefor getting high exposure to the blogosphere and receiving a bump in traffic, think again. You’ve just wasted your hard earned credits on a blog that might look popular inside the EC community, but isn’t all that popular outside the community – where it matters if you’re looking for traffic.

The only way to stop this is to alter the script so it won’t add to your ‘popularity’ when you’re dropping cards. Getting more popular because cards are getting dropped on your blog is a natural and organic type of growth, which would be a more accurate reflection of the popularity of a blog in the place where it really matters – the blogosphere. Until the EC team can find a way to prevent blog inflation from happening, we’re dropping EC.

Got Punk’d On TechCrunch

Just imagine getting linked by one of the biggest blogs around. With a potential of 619,000 RSS readers and most likely even more regular traffic, you’d be wetting your pants! Now it takes some work to get featured on a massive scale like that, or simply a quick email where you let them know what’s up with company xyz. That’s why the big boys always have the news first, because their readers keep an eye out for them and tip them off as soon as something happens. Remember a few days ago when Advertlets went belly up? Silly buggers forgot to renew their domain!

Edward Khoo emailed us about it, to see if it was worth a mention, but we had never even heard about Advertlets previously so we kindly declined Eddie’s ‘scoop’.

TechCrunch was another recipient of Edward’s email (wonder which one of us he mailed first) and they jumped on the news right away. Go Ed! You’ve just been linked by TechCrunch, get ready for some pants wetting – or not. Unfortunately as you can see in the article, TechCrunch editors made a boo-boo and broke the linkback to poor Ed. Does that suck or what?!

Anyway, we know it’s not of a TechCrunch magnitude, but here’s a (working) link from us Ed, we hope it takes away the pain of not being featured by TC.

These darn things just don’t stop! Just when we gave out 750 entrecard credits twice, we’ve got another 750 sitting in our account again…sigh. Ok, guess we’ll be making someone happy again with them.
