Bye Bye Text Link Ads

A quick update on this rainy Sunday afternoon. We have moved a few things around in our sidebar and one of the big changes would be the removal of the Text Link Ads plugin, that’s why our Pasteurized Sites section is pretty empty right now. Sure, taking out the TLA widget will probably get us an angry Jonathan Dingman again, but we figured that we might as well start to do some advertising for ourselves. Most of the TLA links we’ve sold are from our cool readers anyway, so why give TLA 50% of our earnings?

Luckily we found just the plugin to help us out. The WP Text Ads code allows us to make purchasing a text link ad with us even quicker! You used to have to go through the TLA database (in which we were pretty hard to find), and order a link with us there. Now you can just click on the “Buy An Ad Here” link and you’ll get a fancy pop-up that’ll give you the option to pick one of the packages we’re offering.

The plugin wasn’t free, but we’re sure that within a month we’ll have made back the $127 we had to pay for it. Besides that –good code like this is worth it’s money! We actually wanted to email the plugin’s author, Alex Choo, to see if we could get the plugin in exchange for some plugs for his product, but the free demo version looked so good, we just couldn’t wait any longer.

Now help us out by filling up the new plugin space with your text link ads! As soon as we reach 10 links, we’ll give one random person their money back

  1. So, you think they’ll renew their ad in your sidebar next month?

  2. Zach says:

I’m pretty sure that’s just an affiliate ad. Am I right?

I never used TLA, but thanks for the heads up on this plugin. I’ll have to try it some time.

    Way to go Moo

If you believe in yourself enough, why pay someone 50% commission for something you can do yourself.

I am sure if they are happy with their placement and their ROI they will renew their advertising next month, why not? Also, maybe they are not even paying for advertising but rather it’s an affiliate link.

In any case, there is no reason for it to not remain there.

    Good luck John

Zach: Yes, that’s an affiliate ad.

Excellent Mooove John. I am going to smash my piggy bank to buy this plugin. On second thought after hearing the empty sound of rattling coins I might wait until my traffic goes up. Anyways, great move John.

Hey John, good move on removing TLA in your site. Must be because of Google?

  10. bloggernoob says:

way to multitask. review a site, announce your ad, space and push a product. I think for medium to large blogs, its better to not have tla ads up.

  11. why not use OIOPublisher.com it is free and will even do your banners mr cow – I have it doing my links, banners ads, inline ads (rss adverts) within the posts – OIO is what TLA PPP and your inline ads in one and maintained in one central location – cut out the manul work

  12. Mike Huang says:

  13. John Cow says:

Ian: Now you tell us! We’ll have a look at that too and see if it’s better than what we use right now. Might have to ask our money back

  14. John says:

So, John, everyone, what is the best advertising choice for profit? I assume the answer varies depending on your traffic. What is the best choice if you do have the traffic?

  15. shy guy says:

    You are truly evil, Cow..
That’s good point.. Why using TLA if you can have without it…
    Good..

  16. Simon says:

Thanks for the plug Ian!

I developed / am developing OIOpublisher, I’ll be interested to see what you make of it. Sufficed to say, any solution is better than TLA these days lol

  17. Its That Time Of The Year Competition, Week 1!

Yes ladies and gents, its nearly christmas again, well a few weeks/days left but the holiday season is nearly here and what would it be without early gifts for everyone?
Yes, I have lost it again and I want to give out as much as possible before Christ…

  18. nithin says:

Hi, this is a very good move I think. But free version is not useful. You can buy the full version. This is good

  19. sir jorge says:

My site isn’t this optimized, but I considered the same thing…maybe I’ll crossover.

  20. Israel says:

i had that tla plugin and it was worthless, i guess my site wasnt worthy.

  21. good thing you got rid of them since the new google rules I believe being under text link ads will have some effect on your page rank

  22. Good call Cow. Once a blog has established itself it might be wise to cut out the middle men and keep all the money
