Lets Gets Started –> Putting First Things First:
For those of you that are thinking this is going to be simply a step by step approach to building a blog, you are mistaken… and it is very important that you understand the difference. We really want to make it clear right from the start of this little cowpetition set before us, that we are going to be showing you how to start an actual business not just build a blog.
You see there is a gigantic difference between building blogs and building a business. In all honesty anyone can build a blog, there are loads of free services out there that make it completely free to jump online and start writing. This however is not the way to go about truly making money online for the long term.
Our hope is that over the next few weeks, we will be able to transform your viewpoint on “blogging” and educate you on how to truly achieve solid results. We will show you what the difference between a “traffic Broker” and a true “Asset Maker” is and why you want to be an “Asset Maker”.
To make this strategy as completely effective as possible you will want to ensure that you do a few things right from the start…
- Designate time to do this everyday: You need to make sure that you take this serious. If you want to succeed then you need to make sure that you treat this as a serious business. You will want to designate a section of time each day and during that time period you shut off all distractions such as the television, telephone, instant messaging and your email. This is very important as you want to be as effective as possible, and if you only have one or two hours a day to spend on this then you do not want to have any distractions.
- Get organized right from the start: You will want to create a folder on your desktop that is designated for this project. Name the folder “JohnCow Cowpetition” or something similar and this folder will contain all the information you collect through out this training. Also it is recommended that you keep a diary or journal of your daily learnings and goals.
- Make a commitment: If there is one thing that frustrates us to no end is when people complain about a system that they do not even try. Please do not waste yours and our time and energy if you are not going to be committed to following the steps outlined in this training. Follow through and then comment.
- Make a Plan and Make it YOUR Plan: This is probably the most important point of all. With this training you are going to go through “OUR” training but that does not mean it is the best strategy for everyone and as such you need to tweak each step to suit your needs. From strategies to tools that we recommend, look at them simply as suggestions and if they work for you then great but if they don’t, then use what you find best and make it “Your” strategy.
- Get involved… but not too much: Throughout these coming weeks, you have a fantastic opportunity to get involved and grow. Those of you that just sit in the background and never ask any questions are not going to get the full benefit of this training. The best training in the world is called “OJT” which means “On the Job Training” and that means putting into practice what you are learning. You must however learn to balance this, just like forums, these types of things can become major time suckers. Do NOT spend all your time reading comments and replying to comments, use your time as effective as possible to get done what will make you money.
- Constantly Ask Yourself this One Question: If you were paying someone to do what you are doing right now, would you feel it was the best return on investment for what you need to have done right now?
This is going to be a lot of fun and we will do our best to answer questions as they come up and if we say something that you do not agree with then do not be afraid to speak up… but and this time it is a gigantic (not just big) but…
Do NOT Throw Around Theories!
People truly get under our hide when they argue a point that we teach and their only defense is a theory. Show us proof that you personally have proven, not something an author of an ebook, blog or forum has said. We will not waste our time arguing these because 90% of these people that create ebooks, blogs or write in forums have day jobs and are not making a living online and they are simply recycling what they hear works. Every single thing we will teach you these next few weeks are things we have proven to work.
We also need to make clear that we started out just like the majority of you. Not too long ago we were working a full time job and trying to start a business online. Nothing was handed to us, we worked our asses off for everything we have and our hope is that the training we provide in the next few weeks can be put into practice by anyone, whether just starting out or already established.
Last of all, we need to make it very clear that we are going to be referencing some products that we use through out this process. Some of these are free and some of them are not. These are simply our recommendations and if we make a recommendation it will be accompanied by details of how it is used. We apologize if this is an inconvenience to any of you when the time comes that we post about those specific tools.
Let’s have some fun… See you all tomorrow!
PS - Make sure to opt in via email to our RSS feed so that you get invited to our weekly “Email Invite Only” CowCast Webinar’s where we review each weeks lessons and our steps taken in the cowpetition plus have some Q&A time.

Johncow,
What you’ve written is very intelligent information, but I’m scared of one thing for you when you’re going so in depth.
Most people who are getting this information for free *WILL NOT* value it … because it’s free.
You should stick a $2000 price tag on it and package it up for people who want to move to the next level quickly and easily.
Your thoughts on this seeing as you’ve started on “mindset” in this post?
Thanks for listening!
Hi David, your absolutely right.. since this info is free the majority will take it for granted. That is a fact.
The thing is we are sick of people recycling theories and lies while trying to appear as an authority in this field… we know what we are taking about and people are going to see that first hand.
After this is done maybe you can help us create the first ever “CowConference” and we can teach people first hand
David makes a good point, and I didn’t even think of it that way. But, at least it’ll divide the people who are serious from the people who just want the easy money.
So yeah, please don’t hesitate to go in depth.
I disagree!
Some of the best information I have found online has been free - and some real crap has cost me a ton of cash. Just because someone slaps on a big price tag does not mean it has VALUE. The value comes from giving something that has real value and doing so is a really good way to build a relationships of trust.
Why do you care about people that do not see the value in what is being offered? Thats their problem.
Besides that, there are good people that see the value but do not have $2000 to spend until they get something going online.
time set aside, pen and paper in hand…let’s learn how to make moooney already!

Thanks for the first installment, John. I am excited! SmartWomanGuides.com is ready for blast off!
The thing about people not valuing something free—just because you don’t pay money for something doesn’t mean it’s free. I am investing my time, which is the most precious thing I have, committing to building my business with my blog. I value myself and my potential/actual contributions, so I know the value of what you offer here.
The people who take it for granted are simply showing they don’t value themselves and their time, not that they don’t value you. YOU rock and what you have to offer/share is priceless, not worthless! Go, CowBoy!

The blog type business is the one I just did with The SpiderWeb System. So I know what you mean. It was free (except for the hosting) so it didn’t hurt to try it. I can’t wait to see what you are doing and what I will be capable of in time to come after learning what you know. I would like to “know” what I am doing and why. I am never sure what I might be sucked into.
Great first article! Thanks!

I think this point:
>> From strategies to tools that we recommend, look at them simply as suggestions and if they work for you then great but if they don’t, then use what you find best and make it “Your” strategy. <<
is the most important. So many people get hung up on doing it someone else’s way, they’re not open to optimizing it for themselves.
Excellent point,
Barbara
