Blogrush is Dead – And A Good Lesson Too

Just a quick note to let you know that the often controversial “BlogRush” is having its life support pulled and as always, the legend John Reese has a few words of wisdom to add about it.

Check out John’s blog post about it at…

I am very impressed when someone is open about something like this and critics beware…. unless you are successful like John then keep your negative comments to yourself. I too have had many failures and each one is a huge lesson learned and made me that much better for the next project.

VlogHog is not the biggest blog in the universe. Not yet. Still, it has grown tremendously in the last few months. Look at my Alexa stats. More successful bloggers, such as Franklin Bishop, CopyBlogger andJohn COWall have their methods of creating a successful blog. I’ve used them all but have other suggestions they may not have covered. These are my five tips to get more traffic to your blog.

  2. It really is too bad to see good ideas that just don’t work out. Of course we all have to try several different concepts and get all the luck in the world behind us before we manage to find the few great successes!

  3. My site was dropped from blogrush after the first round of cuts that they did last year ( I didn’t have 10 posts up at the time) so I never really had a whole lot of experience with the program.

I will say that I have a lot of respect for John for at least trying something like this as well as being able to admit that it has failed.

Maybe something bigger and better will come from the lessons learned about blogrush.

  4. Ben Tremblay says:

Yeah I saw that yesterday and I think it’s sad for him because that surely was a great idea he had. Anyway, we all fail and that’s OK!

We all try like 10,000 different ideas and some will fail. In fact most of them will fail, that’s just the way it is.

  5. Tushar Dhoot says:

It was really big of him to give all that money, first to make and maintain it, and then secondly to not sell it. He could have made a small fortune at least, but he didn’t.

I was using Blogrush on a site for 3 months and saw not one visitor from it. I honestly think the concept was flawed from the beginning.

  7. Dot Com Dud says:

It’s a shame, BlogRush was a noble idea and was created with good intentions but it just didn’t deliver the results people hoped for. Hopefully it laid the ground work for something better in the future though.

  8. Miha says:

Sad to hear it! I still don’t get it why John is not keeping the project alive or just let somebody else care about it?

  9. Trevor says:

I just commented on John Chow’s blog about it.

Some people might have good success with it, but not me. I’m not really that disappointing to see it go.

  10. Mike Huang says:

They could’ve sold this if they would’ve just ended it early…

  11. Andre Thomas says:

Why sell something when you know it’s obviously going to fail? Do the potential buyer a favor and keep the failed project to yourself.

  12. LeMelon says:

Yeah, I was sad when I got the email telling me it was dead :-(

Cow – how many visitors did you get from it overall?

  13. David Cheong says:

What I believe most is, every human being on this planet do fail, and it could be for some reason, the most important part is, failing doesn’t mean its the end of the world, I’m sure they will stand up again and bring a better, and great idea.

  14. Bryan Bliss says:

I’m curious before I install this cool looking comment milk plugin on my blog if its working as well as you hoped.

Are you getting any readers reporting their comments are being lost?

I posted a comment here in this post a while ago and dont see it.

Is the comment lost or awaiting moderation?

I like the contest management options and am planning a contest soon.

    thanks and take care,

    Bryan

  15. Normal Joe says:

I installed blogrush in the beginning because I thought it was a nice little widget. I quickly removed it after a while, not because I didn’t like it, but it was big, took up space, and I didn’t see much from it.

It was a great idea, and we all have things fail, that’s a great failure if you ask me, with how many folks had it on their blog!

  16. sean says:

blogrush looked good to me. what ever john reese does next I personaly will be looking out for! he makes things look so easy

  17. vectorian says:

sorry to hear that  !!! it was a great concept

  18. Vishal says:

i predicted this would happen the day it launched :) . call it simple math and fuzzy logic. visit this url to learn why and how i made the prediction if you are interested to learn something that may help you in the future, or may be not. whatever. here’s the link –

  19. Malin says:

It was only a matter of time!

  20. Alex says:

Blogrush is dead for a long time, just like Entrecard was a waste of precious time. I don`t see the widget on that many sites anymore..Not something to worry about.

  21. yeah man, it happens all the time… good he acknowledged it and had the guts to tell it like it is.

  22. Is there a similar product to this that is still around? I never got a chance to try this.

  23. Riyanne says:

I see some similarities between Entrecard and BlogRush. Both wanted to help their users before monetizing it. Too bad BlogRush didn’t reach the monetizing stage :(

  24. Steve says:

You know, there could be an info product in the failure. I recall a text I had to purchase for a college marketing course that was composed of several short case studies whose central theme was business failure.

having been down the road of business failures more than once…the faster you get your wounds licked and your ego bandaged, the faster you will see the sun rising for a new venture.

Who was it that said that which does not kill us, makes us stronger?

  25. Larry says:

Sorry to see it fail, But heay that’s business. at least he tried. We all have lost in one venture or another.

  26. Edward says:

I installed Blogrush in the beginning too. But removed it after a month.

I always thought that the links didn’t have enough characters in and so people didn’t know what they were clicking on and so wouldn’t click. A ticker style widget would have been better imo. Everyone placed the widget way to far down the page too.

If I had an offer for a failing idea I would have sold it  .

  27. htcmobile says:

it seems that you use dofollow! It not esay for a blogger to have the courage to dofollow

  28. BlogRush is a great concept that had a lousy result period. May it rest in peace now.

  29. hiep says:

    i like your blog

  30. I would go as far to say that failures are the only way we really learn. When we are down in the valley, that’s where most of the learning takes place. That learning in the valley is what makes you rise up to the top of the mountain. At the top of the mountain, very little learning takes places. Small businesses start out in the valley. If they are successful they rise up to the mountain top. Once at the mountain top, they become stagnant within the corporate culture.

John’s most valuable asset was not BlogRush or any other business venture. His most valuable asset is time for time is the stuff life is made of. Admitting failure and letting something go as fast as possible is the key to success. Cutting your losers short and letting your winners ride is something all of us need to be doing on a regular basis. The worst thing you can do is to waste your valuable time trying to make a market where there is none.

  31. Salwa says:

You have to admire John Reese for being man enough to decide it’s time to call a halt to Blogrush. I don’t doubt that we all have failures we could share and not everyone would be comfortable doing so publicly. He deserves respect not only for doing so, but for the good intentions behind the project.

  34. Of course, I’m meaning EntreCard. I just had two blogs removed and wrote and told them I thought EC was a waste of time. So please remove me!

  35. It was indeed an excellent blogging network. Sorry for them.

    However, we still got MyBlogLog!

  36. I started blogging two months ago and I hear about blogrush. They were the first network I join. The experience was very good. It a little disappointing that they shutdown. Moving on to the next one.
