A ProBlogger’s Typical Workday

Written by John Cow on March 12th, 2008

We thought we’d give you folks an inside look of the busy and glamorous life of a Pro Blogger. We say pro because blogging is how we pay for our rent, bills and groceries. So we’re not talking about Darren today. Occasionally, when we’ve got a good month, it also pays for new gadgets or mini-breaks to other countries. Lets have a look of how busy we’ve been today for example, just to give you an indication what it means to go pro with your blog.

We wake up early at 07:00. No matter how quiet the girlfriend tries to be when she leaves for work, it’s usually not quiet enough. Woke up at 10:00 again and it’s time to get out of bed. Yawn! A nice and strong cup of coffee, sometimes a cigarette and a bit of fresh air in the garden get the system going. Back inside, we have to check if the movies and tv-shows we picked yesterday have downloaded overnight. If they are, back to bed and a couple of hours movie watching on our 24″ iMac. Has to be done people!

Once we’re done watching, a quick shower, getting dressed and facing the first big decision of the day - what’s for lunch. We had to choose between KFC, McDonalds, BurgerKing or PizzaHut. All within a 5 minute walk radius, this isn’t an easy task. We decided to pay Colonel Sanders (Jeremies favorite) a visit for some fries, spicy chicken wings and a chicken fillet burger. Breakfast might be the most important meal in the day, but we’d prefer lunch any time. Having stuffed our face with these nutritious goodies, it’s time to stroll back home, stopping by the video game store to see if there’s anything new out. With Rainbow Six Vegas 2 still not in, we picked up Spiderman 3 and Tiger Woods 08 for our XBOX 360. Should keep us occupied for the next week.

Getting even closer to home, there’s this beautiful little coffee shop which does the best chocolate cake ever! Goes down well with a nice hot cup of chocolate milk. Just have to be careful not to spill it over our macbook while we’re writing this post. The great thing about writing it here is that there’s no Internet connection available, so we get a minimum of distractions. No emails, no IMs, no Twitter. Pure bliss!

So from here on, we’re headed back home and check our inboxes to see if we’ve made any money, received fanmail or more marriage proposals. There’s probably a few in there, and if we’re lucky we will get around to answering those sometime this week. Right now, its time to check the blog stats and comments to see who still loves us and who hates us. Fortunately Akismet saves us a lot of time filtering out the spam so we get more time to spend on you guys.

Once all that’s done, we might actually get of our asses and start writing a post. Today we’re not gonna, since this was already done in the coffee shop. Sweet! A bit of extra quality time available on the gaming consoles before the missus comes home from work  Party is over when she’s back. Even though she’s in denial, she’s seriously addicted to all the soap shows that are on from 17:00 to 20:00 and she pretty much claims the TV. What are you gonna do eh fellas?

Now this is our Internet time. We retreat back into our problogging office/bedroom and start flicking through the feeds in our RSS reader. A bit of Stumbling, Diggin and Googling, some IMing and Twittering and before you know it the clock strikes 23:00 again. The day is nearly done and we still have to check our PayPal, Adsense, Clickbank and other affiliate accounts to see if we made more money today. This process is crucial because it can shape the start of tomorrow. If we’ve made a ton, chances are we’ll get out of bed at 08:00 and be in the game store at 09:00 to buy a PS3 :D If we didn’t make a ton, well, you can start reading this post from the top again.

And that kids, is a day in the ever exciting life of a problogger. If you think you could handle the stress and chaos that come with the territory, we suggest you invest in a good LCD TV for some quality HD gaming!

 While I was being told today to quit babying the new girl I trained and to “really start learning this new position we gave you” I thought of my new site, MouthyGirl.com and of JohnCow.com and the very first site I ever read you on. One day I will be posting a post like this, and I’m going to email you that day and tell you it’s about damn time, and I’m going to give away the DS.

I’d like to follow in your genius footsteps…

Na but seriously you guys should learn from this. first you guys should use that time to keep building online and offline. It’s important to remember that making money online might not always be there. So it’s good advice to take the money you made from blogging and keep it making money. Invest in a rental property or even a business outside from blogging. you will find out you have alot of things to do and there won’t be enough time in the day to finish all your work by the time you 40 you can retire and enjoy all your hard work in florida or where ever you freakin feel like

  29. links from Technoratibetter, bring in better ads. But for what? Our fickle friend Google can take it all away tomorrow. Does anyone who reads our blogs really care what Google says about us anymore? Link bait, to me, seemed like a bigger deal than it was. Like the termproblogger, it sounded important until I realized it wasn’t. For bloggers whose ad sales are based on Page Rank, I say conform away. Grab your poles, bait those hooks, reel in the biggest fish you can get. My fisherman’s hat is off to you.
