5 Reasons I Stopped Reading Your Blog

This has been posted previously on BobmeetsWorld, but slightly re pasteurized for all you new readers.

We all know how hard it is to get more RSS subscribers on your blog. There are plethora of ways and means to increase readers but the biggest trick is to hold on to them. I have seen stats go up and down, slowly creeping upwards without a really good reason for it. From a personal perspective I listed my top 5 reasons why I unsubscribed from [insert random name] blog. Please feel free to leave a comment telling us your main reason to drop a feed and no longer visit that blog. Us bloggers might learn a thing or two.
1) Oh, so you have a life now?.
This is a easy one. If I don’t see any updates in 3-4 days I assume you must have stopped blogging and went on to do something useful with your life. No reason for me to stick around anymore, I’m gone. Your spot is taken by someone’s feed that does provide me with new and interesting content. Sorry, I’m moooving on.
2) What? I have to register to leave a comment?
Really, you’ve got a nice blog and I liked your articles, but I don’t think I’ll come back any time soon. The only way for me to actively participate on your posts is to register before I can leave a comment? Sorry but I just don’t have the time/am too lazy to register. Now I feel left out. Better luck with the next reader.
3) Didn’t I see this before? On someone else’s blog? Yesterday?
It happens, a lot. Some bloggers tend to copy their articles from bigger blog’s hoping to get noticed. If I read a great article on blog on a Monday, I really don’t want to waste my time reading the same version on blog X on a Tuesday. Try to be original. Obviously most popular topics have been covered by heaps of people but try to add your own insights and/or experience on the subjects.
4) More clicking? I just told you I’m lazy.
A full feed is appreciated. I don’t want to read half the story and then have to click a “read more” link to get the other half. Also I like to quickly scan the whole article first to see if it’s worth my while, but I can’t see the whole thing right now. You’re blog is making me wait until your it’s loaded up again in my browser. But wait, that other blog there is already fully open. I might as well go there. Sayonara Sucker!
5) MeepMeep! Slow down will ya!
Your blog is great, I love your articles. But I’m struggling to keep up with them! You’re updating those posts faster than a speeding bullet. I’m not superman and only have a limited amount of time per day. I’d rather read 10 posts on 10 different blogs than spending my limited time solely on your blog, see ya.

I found it a lot easier to start subscribing to different feeds when I finally started to do it. Now I can’t stop! Subscribed to this one too
Got a link to your site via Viral Tags.
Funny…
seriously… Great!
NIce article . Well i would say this is the best copycat blog which i have seen . Keep your hard work going up.
wow.. this is great.. too funny@
.. i meant the site by the way.. i love it. keep up the great work!
Oh Man I got this site through Viral I saw.. Awsome.. Awsome all I have to say..
Bookmarked.
i am considering starting my first blog, and i have found your site very very helpful, i was wondering, if you could advise me on how to set up page flows archives, choosing a website, to use to host it and such things it would be a enormous help. keep up the amazing site!!
What about that, been online for 5 days and already people think we are very helpful! Well Mahdi, how can we help? Oh and Culture Shiok!, did we get Viraltagged back yet? Don’t make our milk go off!
Thank you, we’ve managed to update our blog very regularly and we’re trying to keep doing that to pull in more traffic.
Thanks for the tips.
I have two cows in my wordless post!
Strangely enough I left a mooo in there but it’s not published.
Already Viraltagged back to John Cow Dot Com!
Great post. # 4 really hit home as I had experimented with showing only excerpts on my front page. The backlash was significant. I quickly went back to full posts.
Smart mooove!
What a unique use of ViralTags … I like.
Aside from the first point, I take the same stance when it comes to reading blogs and knowing when to quit. I will often give a site a week before unsubscribing to their feeds.
1. Clever use of ViralTags. Reeled me right in.
2. I like the dancing cow.
HA, very funny. This is a great blog. wish I thought of it. Well normally I don’t like to have to leave my e-mail to post a comment but your blog was intresting enough to do so. I’v linked back to you as Johncow.com If you would like it changed just let me know.
You deserve milk and cookies!
I agree with ALL of these. And I even think you can give the same content, but if you put it into your own words (I mean, REALLY do it, not change an I to an EYE), then people will at least appreciate the effort. Besides, in an ADD society, you could post something from 2 months ago and get kudos for new content, THINK people!!
very trooo
I’m sure there is more than 5 reasons existed to stop reading blogs…
However, we’re reading and commenting this article at a BLOG!!!
so this is an irony, isn’t it ?
But not just A blog mind you!
Sure, there are more than 5, but think about what he posted — we don’t have a lot of time to go reading through long lists! KISS was invented for a reason!
Boy, I guess you’ve got it made. In my one year++ of blogging you’re the most original in my book. You’re the real thinking blogger. Hats off to you for having sharp wit and wisdom, and making whoopee with some cowsense!
Thank you Markk, we appreciate you visiting!
Yeah, I’ve read this article before but great job with the re-pasteurization.
I agree on all points. I try to post an article once a day, I don’t require users to register before they can comment, #3 does happen in my blog but I try to give it my own style and opinion into it and besides, I use full feeds and I don’t post more than 2 articles a day.
What a funny post
Seriously a gorgeous blog is not enough coz you need style to keep your readers stick to ya.
Beauty, style, and the mother of all, good content.
I really have to agree with #1, if I don’t see new posts I will lose interest fast.
I think I will also have to start giving full feeds.
Great post! I agree on all points.
Great Blog!

But I thumbed you up! Here

you may not be reading my blog….yet…but with posts like this I am reading and learning from your blog. Look out before you kow it you will be reading by blog before you drink your daily glass of milk
Another thing that drives me crazy is poorly placed ads littered throughout the post and blog. If I can’t easily follow what I’m trying to read, I close the browser — simple as that.
Another point would be seeing advertisements everywhere . Now that’s annoying
