Link building is (arguably) the most important part of your site’s SEO. The quality and the quantity of your links is how Google knows if you can be trusted. By building high authority links back to your site – you instantly boost your credibility and the likelihood of ranking higher in the SERPs.

link-buildingIf you’re trying to build links for your site to increase your pagerank, rank higher in Google and other Search Engines then you know that every link counts. Link building is a skill on and off itself, therefore I can’t break down all the elements in a single post.

What I want to do though, is I want to raise your awareness about the three link building techniques that are thought of as “Dead,” but in fact are more “Alive” than you could have imagined.

Social Bookmarking

The majority of internet marketers never indulge themselves into this “foolish” activity. However, the fact of the matter is that it looks foolish only to the untrained eye. Social bookmaking’s entire concept is based around building high authority linkbacks for your website in a very short time.

On the other hand, people fail to realize that, and so they get disappointed and discouraged because their stories didn’t make it to the front page of Technorati, Digg and Delicious. What you need to understand is that making it to the front page is a BONUS of social bookmarking. Instead, what your real agenda should be is the 6-9 PR BACKLINKs you get by submitting your content.

Remember that we aren’t talking about Traffic Generation. If your major focus in social bookmarking is traffic generation, then before you go about submitting your content you should also develop some major skills in Social Media marketing, Headline and Copywriting, Marketing Expertise and Storytelling. Only then you will be able to compete against some of the major players in the league of Social Media.

Article Marketing

If I were to receive a nickel every time I heard “Article Marketing is Dead” I would be a very rich man by now. I would like to remind you once more that we aren’t talking about traffic generation but rather about link building – totally different concept.

Article marketing is an awesometastic (yep, it’s a real word) way of building high PR backlinks for your website. And its effectiveness triples when you’re using some kind of article submission software. Most of the article directories (that are worth submitting to) are pagerank 5-8, which makes them an outstanding way of acquiring link juice.

Google and the search engines are in love with article directories such as EzineArticles, ArticleCity, ArticleBase and ArticleFeeder. You can easily dominate 4-6 positions on the first page of Google if you do your keyword research right. This means that a backlink from an article directory will not only become utterly valuable over time, but will also turn into a major Authority Indicator for Google.

The best way to utilize Article Marketing is to use proper article submission software. Personally, I use ArticleSubmitAuto, which is a free service that submits my articles to the Top 20 article directories. It means that for every article I write, I get twenty quality PR 5-8 backlinks back to my blog.

Forum Marketing

Besides being one of the Top Notch link building ways, forums are a great place to find business associates, form partnerships and get help. For the most part, people are very warm and generous there, which makes it an awesome place to hang out, socialize and improve your skills.

The best way to leverage forums is to build links while being genuine, honest, helpful and outgoing. In order to run a successful link building campaign you’ll have to take care of two simple things:

  1. Create a signature file with an SEO Anchored Text linking back to your website
  2. Be active, generous and helpful

This link building strategy is best suited for beginners. Reason being is that most forums are pagerank 2-4, which makes them useless for veterans with pagerank 5 and higher. If you’re just starting out and your site is yet to rise above PR2 – forums are a great place for you to build links.

Make it a habit to post at least 10-15 replies on Warrior Forum and Digital Point everyday and overtime you’ll notice a substantial increase in traffic and authority of your site.

And One More Thing…

Link building doesn’t produce instant results. Pagerank and Authority is a combination of quality, quantity, relevance and the age of your links as well as your content. Don’t expect instant results, in fact, don’t expect results AT ALL!

  1. Not yet trying article marketing. Will go into. Can you write the simple ways for newbie like me to use article marketing, cause it’s mean that blogger like me must write article not just for my blog update.

You know that a little bit hard. But please don’t say outsourcing…

Hi, regarding social bookmarking, is there such a thing as overdoing it? I read somewhere that you might be labeled as a spammer if you frequently bookmarks your own posts.

    • If you bookmark your stuff once or twice a day – it’s not spam. However, what you can do is use multiple accounts and an automated software to social bookmark your content.

We’ve been bookmarking almost daily. In terms of back links, it seems that that each book mark site only counts once even if bookmarked from different accounts. Now pardon my ignorance but I’m using the seo quake plugin to tell my page counts and back links (yahoo for backlinks) and so far blog commenting happens to look the best. Any thoughts on this? (i didn’t do any forum marketing).

That said i may be getting confused over what yahoo and google show for back links vs how many backlinks i actually have – i heard there is a difference. any thoughts on this too?

Thanks. We’re trying but i don’t think we really know what we are doing.

And thanks for the “Enter Keyword Phrase to Hyperlink to Above Entered URI” thingy above John!

    Any tips are much appreciated!

    • Hey Rachel,

blog commenting does seem to be the best after social bookmarking.

However, I know for sure that Google Webmaster tools recognize each backlink as a backlink even if from the same site.

Forums are as good as blogs, however it is hard to find HIGH PR forums, therefore this strategy applies mostly to beginners.

      • Blog commenting is great and so it bookmarking so why not bookmark your blog comments and then ping them? Not only do you help yourself but you also help they blog your commenting on.

  5. Article Marketing enhanced with social media can boost link building campaign. To make this happen, an initial proper keyword research is required to be applied to the appealing article title first. then, it needs to be used within the key positions of articles too.

Once such an optimized article is written, the proper submission should be performed to spread the word among the top directories and even blogs.

Social media bookmarking comes into the image when you decide to use it for bookmarking this article published in one of the article directories.

First of all, I just wanted to say thanks a lot for the info – very helpful. I myself am new to most of this stuff, so could anybody explain or point me to an explanation of social media bookmarking, as I know absolutely nothing about that? Thanks in advance.

Also, I just wanted to correct a statement made in the post regarding ArticleSubmitAuto. The author states he submits to the top 20 article directories using this software for free, when, in actual fact, the free version only submits to 5, as I just went to take a look at it after I read that.
